Minimalistic Mixer
Posted on: 10.02.2013 by Tessie Spice
Hi there, I'm looking for a 4-Channel Midi Mixer (No soundcard).

I want something that ONLy has the simplest things. THis means Channel faders, 3 EQ knobs per channel and not a lot more than that.

Hell, I don't even need a crossfader.

Any suggestions?

I said in the first post that I'm looking for a minimalistic midi mixer, no need for a soundcard

That would work perfectly for effects in DJ set, not so much for mixing IMO.

The intent of this mixer isn't actually mixing. It's for full control over the effects parameters (Channel faders for D/W and the 3 EQ knobs for the 3 different effect parameters per effects deck.

People will probably say that the MM-1 is overkill to only use for effects but I believe it will be a fun hands-on way for 2 people to DJ together (With my buddy handling mixing and me the effects, then us swapping places every few songs).

X1 encoders can be re-mapped for pitchbanding too.

An X1 and mixer setup would rely on sync yes.

I'd guess the MM-1 would have center indents as it's being pushed specifically as a mixer, rather than a generic midi device.

If you can find it, the M-Audio X-Session Pro is dirt cheap. It has no LED feedback, looks like a toy as it is all plastic and thus may not stand up to a lot of abuse....but has 4 faders, 3 knobs for each of the 4 strips and a cross-fader.

You are probably better off waiting for the MM-1, but if you need something right away that won't break the bank and won't need to be super sturdy, the x-session pro may be ok for you.

BTW, I have a Xone:K2 that I had bought for that purpose and I don't recommend it for DJ'ing. The channel faders have studio caps which renders them somewhat less than useful for DJ'ing (for me). In addition, the pots for each channel do not have a center detent making them too fiddly for me when adjusting EQs quickly during a mix. just my $0.02

These were the two I was considering, just wondering if anything else fits the bill

Also the fact that I wouldn't be surprised if something delays the release of the MM-1 even further haha.

OT request 16 analog controls, UC3 has 17 plus some buttons.

How's that? I believe crosfader is additional and all controls are MIDI programmable.

theres also the stanton scs1m? I dont know if there really is a controller on the market that is just four faders with 16 knobs.

That "shift plus push encoder" system seems like a great way to go directly to the bank you want to use! that's the one thing I don't like about my old style nanokontrol, is having to cycle through the pages.

yeah, the ft3 and the dj3 look pretty cool, but they don't have anything that fits the bill for "4 channel faders and eqs only".
I still believe that the xsession pro is the closest someone could get to that, but it's a shame that they're so cheaply made.
I wonder if anyone has ever ventured to crack one open and replace the faders on it? I wonder if they're integrated carbon strip faders like inside the korg nanokontrol?

Only Faderfox that meets the OP's spec is the 4MidiLoop, which is far from minimalistic.
