Hey Guys,

Right now I am on the search for some good at home practice tables. I know the CDJ's are the club standard but I'm sure as everyone would agree they are EXPENSIVE!! So on my search for an affordable set of CDJ's I came across Numark's version of Pioneer CDJ's. But I am at a crossroads because people say I should save other say its okay for home practice, so I'm asking you, The People of DJTT! Help me on my quest! What are your thoughts, suggestions and answers.

Are you wanting to scratch with CDs? Are you wanting to do long mixes and beatmatching? Are you wanting to emulate a specific club setup and build time with that? Are you wanting to put together a mobile DJ setup that you can use to make some $$$?

Long mixes mainly hour to four hour sets. But being able to do long mixes at clubs as well as be mobile would be awesome because then I could double the income. But preferably being able to do long sets at home is what I want just to make mixes and get them out there to clubs and other people.

being able to scratch would be pretty cool but its not necessary.

For CDJ (CD/usb) type players I would personally be looking at either Pioneer, Denon or Reloop.

The Reloop rmp3 alphas are a fantastic player and possibly the one that offers the most value for money without comprimising on quality. Brand new they will be the cheapest of the three brands mentioned.

It sounds like Pioneer & Denon players will likely be out of your price-range brand new but there are some second-hand bargains to be found. Well worth researching both their product lines to get a feel for whats currently out there though.

Make no mistake though, any of these players are going to be a fairly big investment and cost substantially more than a pair of Numark cd players (Axis-9/NDX200/NDX400 etc). However I don't believe these 'budget' cd players are very cost effective and as others have suggested, at this price point I believe you would be better served going for a midi-controller of some sort (there are literally hundreds) that will offer far more and let you get a handle on the basics.

Once you have a few months practice under your belt, you will have a far better idea of what kind of route you'd like to go down- CD players / digital vinyl / better spec controller etc. Then you will be far better placed to save up and research the options that fit your future needs.

For the time being I believe a decent entry level controller would be the best bet, and stop you spending a lot more money on something you might want to change within a few months when you have more knowledge of what everything does.

All just my personal opinion of course

why not try a pioneer controller like a DDJ SX or SR? correct me if i am wrong, but it will probably have the same workflow as that of a cdj and mixer. Its also a mobile set up than 2CDJs and a mixer with sound card and laptop.

Stuff like Rekordbox might also be a factor. Seeing as most clubs have Pioneer gear, and I'm going by the assumption that you would like to play out later, using Rekordbox could make that way easier. Just roll in with your USB flash drive(s) and off you go. Of course this is true for other DJ gear as well (Denon, for sure, has decks that take USB sticks), but it might make your life a tiny bit easier. Your choice of course.

don't forget their are other brands beside Pioneer and Numark. Reloop, Gemini, American Audio, Denon (amazing gear)

I hate when people assume that it's a Pioneer world
