Need help with 90's style house tracks Hey guys. I'm looking for tracks/labels geared towards a 90s style house sound. Nothing too crazy or boring, around the 120-125 bpm range. Any help would be much appreciated. Here's an example of sort of the style I'm looking for:

So you posted Ejeca, so find out what labels they have released on, check the releases on those labels, find more artists you like and keep repeating.
A word of warning, there is a lot better to be found that was actually released in the 90's rather than now, there some good producers putting out that revival house sound, but a lot of it is very generic, seems people have forgotten how to look for new samples.
But there is still a lot of good stuff to be found, you just have to dig for it.

1994 - great year, the Essential Mixes that year full of quality House tunage IMHO Nice to chat with a like minded person
Yeah there has been some quality released in the last couple of years, I believe the whole revival was helped mainly by My Love Is Underground, it put a lot of old producers back in the limelight, along with the likes of Vibes & Pepper who I'm so glad put out the re-issue of The 4 Play EP as the original was going for way too much. There are labels that are still putting out some quality stuff but there are a lot more putting out mediocre "90's house" that literally is just a 909 and some stabs they took from a Kerri track or the like.
And by the way I hate calling it 90's house as really its just house, but hey ho thats how its been branded.
Its always good to find like minded people.
As we're on the subject, did pick up an amazing old Lil' Louis record yesterday. |

Not sure what other people believe but for me; a lot of what is popular and deemed 'Deep House' at the moment tends to be erring more on the bass/sub bass driven House, hence my suggestion to look at the UK Garage side of things.
I believe it's difficult to break down the 90's decade (let alone 25 years of House Music); the Dance Music scene, for want of a better phrase, changed so much in that time and a huge amount of high quality tracks were released, it's hard to make recommendations . Traxsource is definately the first port of call I would say.
Agree with everything you said there, yeah between 94-96 the US sound definitely influenced the UK guys, and yeah around 97 onwards is where the UK guys started to make it there own. There was some amazingly good stuff back then.

Still wish I'd been able to experience the 90's properly. |

Now on to the original sound, blimey, where to start! It's definitely worth checking out some of the UK Garage labels from 97-99. Check out these labels/artists:
Strictly Rhythm
Ice Cream Records
Swing City
Wyze
Grant Nelson
Todd Edwards
Masters At Work
MK
Pure Silk Records
51st State Records
Locked On Records
Public Demand
Azuli Records
NuJak Records
Salted Music
Nervous Records
Soulfuric Records
King Street Music
Nice N Ripe
Defected
Yoshitoshi
NRK
There's loads pretty much, I'll have delve through the vinyl later and pick out a few gems.
Cheers
With early uk stuff I'd go even earlier, around 94 thats when 24 hour experience were smashing it on Nice n Ripe. Towards the 97-99 mark is when it started getting a bit harder, 94-96 were good years. |

Every recommendation thus far on this thread is an avenue I have very much explored previously. I don't want to be a dick and say, "That's not what I wanted BRO!" So yeah, I wanted to hopefully hear material I have yet to discover. Hasn't happened probably because I spend 10+ hours a week listening to stuff. Thanks for the tips though. |

I've also been digging these recently
Hope that helps. |

Justine Schipp 01.12.2013 | check out everything with the label Strictly Rhythm that was released during the 90's. Early releases from Henry Street should do the trick. |
Nikole Resende 01.12.2013 | You should also check out Local Talk

Tera Baragan 01.12.2013 | Tis jackin. Really chilled out tho.
More new age style would be Low steppa or ill phil. |
Rita Debar 30.11.2013 | |
Lakeesha Storman 30.11.2013 | I'll peruse my records when I get home and see if any other labels are common. Classic house sub genre on traxsource will have some stuff too, although some of it will go back further than the 90s |
Marcelina Hanaway 30.11.2013 | I follow all of those except Cajual (a little too techy for what I'm looking for). Thank you though. |
Lakeesha Storman 30.11.2013 | Jackin records, defected records, nervous/nurveous records and subliminal are all labels that have some similar sounding stuff from the 90s. Find some old bad boy Bill or Richard vission, (Richard humpty vission back then) mix tapes or cds for ideas and songs. Cajual also is a good label |
Marcelina Hanaway 30.11.2013 | Yeah, I've been following EM for awhile now. Honestly, I have a lot of 90's style stuff, but I feel like it's all coming from the same place. I'd like to find new stuff though. |
Rae Beachy 30.11.2013 | 1. Youtube eton messy or majestic casual.
