Question about which soundcard to get???
Posted on: 04.04.2013 by Zana Chevallier
I just traded my 4trak for a Behringer ddm4000 and a Novation Launchpad. My setup consists of 2 Launchpads and 1 DDM4000. I want to use one launchpad as deck A and the other launchpad as Deck B. I want to use the mixer as the mixer, not as a midi controller. Can I use an Audio 2 Dj and just route the audio through the mixer? Or should I get a different soundcard? I hope that made sense...If not, I made a VERY DETAILED drawing of what I am trying to say.

yup, sorry op, im being crazy today. you could just use the ddm4000 as a midi controller with all 4 channels and the audio 2 for your soundcard and cueing.

you could also midi map the other 2 channels in traktor. you could have 2 external and 2 internal (though that would pose a problem if you are going to be recording your sets). but as the others said if you want 4 external channels you would have to get an audio 8/10 for this since the a6 only has 3 outputs. you could also combine deck c and d into the 3rd channel if you want.

Edit: I don't believe you can have internal and external routing work in this manner (simultaneously) with that setup. Sorry, I want believeing properly.

you wouldn't be using one of the audio 2 channels for the monitor. you can have both outputs each routing a traktor channel and the monitoring will be done via the mixer.

this ... if you would like four channels, go with an audio8dj or audio 10

Nah man, don't use the DDM4000 as a midi controller, it's incredibly wasteful. If you want to use a midi mixer buy a good midi mixer rather than a mixer with a crappy midi feature tagged on.

Get an audio interface with 4+ stereo outputs. The best option for this is the Reloop Contour Interface Edition which is stupidly good value for money and it also has some midi controls on it as a bonus!

I want an all digital setup...I have decided. I am not going to have any controllers with the red/white rca cables, all usb. I don't want timecode, cdjs, or vinyl. Could I just get a midi-to-usb cable and call it a day? It is so confusing when none of your gear is in front of you!

So both support 4 deck, both support timecode, Audio 8 doesn't need external power...

Is sound quality the same? Also, is it worth the price difference?

Audio 8 has 4 stereo ins/outs. Audio 10 has 5.

Audio 8 has 2 phono preamps, Audio 10 has 4.

Also the Audio 10 is the only NI interface that requires an external power supply

I'm sorry to stalk the topic, but are both Audio8 and Audio10 4 channel capable?

If yes, what are the differences between both?

I believe I may have spoke too soon...now that I believe about it, I don't believe you can have a combo of external and internal routing. Not in front of my gear to check though. Even if you could, you would still need to be able to run the internal channels to the speakers...and in this case through the mixer. Midi on that mixer simply allows you to control software parameters. It does not allow for aduio signal to go through the mixer.

I believe that's what i'm going to do. I am going to do 2 external and 2 internal for now. How would it be a problem for recording sets though? Wouldn't all of the audio come out of the main out on the mixer?

i'd go for something more than a audio dj 2

as 1 of your channels will be used for monitor.. so basically you will only have EQ on one channel (unless you mapped it with midi)

yea you'd be doing exactly what's in the picture. You'd plug in your headphones into the mixer. This is the same thing I was doing when I had a DDM4000 and Audio2.

yeah, the audio 2 will work, but like SlvrDragon50 says, you will only be able to use 2 mixer channels via traktor (with external mixing). you could use cdjs or turntables with the other 2 channels, but not with timecode.

DDM4000 has its own soundcard I thought...

edit: I'm stupid. It doesn't.

The audio 2 DJ should work, but I'd suggest a larger card so you can use the other channels of the DDM4000 if you ever choose to expand.
