+1 to this but i'll say my favourite genere for the moment is nu trap. Perfect blend of hip hop and dirty electro synths....you can go wrong.

It took me a while to discover how I mix my toons from different generes cause there are so many difference but at the same time so many similarities. Once you can kind of grasp the commonalities between different genres you'll se ehow more of them can blend together. I feel like anyone track that can get you and your crowd to dance should not be ignored!

hip hop, funk, soul, r&b, 'beat music' lol, psyche rock, anything thats sounds craaziie.

roots in hip hop growing up with bboying, transitioned/combined funk and such from digging for breaks.......also when I started making beets, it real influenced and broadened my horizons.

I like pulling off mixes with different genres as long as they fit well together and pleasing to the ears! Experimenting just keeps it interesting for me.

I believe Deep House is the best it's ever been. You will find anything from Garagey styles, Acid & Chunky basslines, melodic vocals, all with really great interesting productions.

Occasionally pick out a Tech House tune when going a bit uptempo. Some Nu Disco is good, too. I don't bother listening to the House section anymore, too much naff stuff.

Back when I was playing out, and things were all-vinyl (around 1998-2001ish) I was playing progressive house pretty much exclusively, and by the end of that time, stuff that was on the dark side of prog.. believe Tilt - Dark Science EP:

Then I got out of it for a bunch of years and what is now called progressive house is a very different thing.. Tech House these days is much closer to the sound I used to like. So I've been playing a lot of that, and some techno. I also find myself mixing in the odd trance track when it fits.. I'm pretty picky with those though, some of it is SO cheesy, IMHO.

Soulful House, Deep House, Breaks and partial to Old School House/Rave/Jungle with variations of a theme beneath those genres I suppose.

I started off doing mobile gigs (weddings, corporate stuff) almost 10 years ago, taking over for my boss so he could move into the event production side of things. That translated into top 40 gigs at local bars. Started doing less mainstream stuff and moved into mashups and dubstep about 4 years ago. Lately I've been setting up "edm" events and spinning mostly trap and electro-house. Still do enough weddings and mobiles that my disco, 80's, and classic rock collections aren't gathering dust.

To answer op, I suppose I can mix just about anything, and often do.

I started playing around with virtual DJ when I was about 17 after getting into deep house/house though I've always listened to a lot of different music, my music taste/collection expanded quite rapidly after that.
That was 4 years ago, these days I try to play a wide range of music, really depends who I'm playing for. House, garage, drum and bass, breaks, bassline, electro-swing/gypsy music, and a lot of stuff which i guess people are calling "bass music".

I started playing in a heavy metal bar of a family friend when i was 15, always liked a lot of other stuff from a young age, ended up meeting people and getting into dub reggae, then playing alot of jungle and dnb. Now i play pretty much all bass music.

Some of the mixes that helped me find "my sound" in here: http://community .djranking s.com/showthread.php?t=70273

I just started DJing about 5 monthes ago and probably went the hardest route possible. I like such a huge variety of music that I have been trying to learn to mix genres as smoothly as possible. I was actually really excited with the latest DJTT article on mixing different BPMs.

I mostly mix Minimal and Deep House
When I was 14 yo, 7 years ago, I started mixing trance, but then, I switched to minimal, thanks to a friend that's PR from Barraca Music, then I did some gigs there and at Pacha in Valencia (Spain) some years ago, but when I moved to Dominican Republic the last year, I just mix and play at my room, because people here, use to listen "pop" and "reggaeton" and I really can't stand that genres :c, specially the "reggaeton", I hate it D:

my cousin's bf at the time told me he plays dubstep 3-4 years ago and i was like... what's that? so he passed me this

and it kinda went from there, listening then dabbling with producing and then playing with virtual DJ, i grasped the basics of djing on that, and got to try out the real thing almost a year ago, tried playing on cdjs thanks to a m8, got an opening slot a few weeks later, and i'm playing here and there since then, nothing big.
I also try to spin a bit of vinyl, but it's kinda hard cause i have nowehere to practice except in the club given i don't have turntables

then i kinda got into the hip hoppy stuff like om unit & co. thanks to this EP, but i was still just mainly playing dubstep
http://soundcloud.com/omunit/cbr006-danny-scrilla-flash
i slowly got into dnb too, especially junglish bits, the dark critical type stuff and autonomic and i played my first purely dnb set
some time earlier this year and now i'm basically playing a bit of all three with some UK Funky ish and housey stuff thrown in too.
