** UPDATED PICS **

After being bored with the way that digital DJing was going for me, I decided to sell my S4 and pocket the cash to throw down on some Technics.

Im extremely happy with my purchase, been wanting a pair since I started 10 years ago. Definitely gonna need some refurb and modifications but its a big step for me.

Get a grip for christsake man haha... a guy putting his own spin on a pair of decks is like putting new wheels on the car to replace the factory standard.

They are the same decks, worry not.

Its amazing. Feels great to be back on turntables again. The S4 created too many bad habits and I didnt have enough control. D&B is definitely not made for controller type gear .

The really cool thing imo is that you managed to get a pair of m3d/mk3 whatever - with the recessed motor switch, pitch reset button and no center detent on the fader. Here I see ads for MK2s most of the time, and hardly any of the more recent models.

(well, there was one local hero selling his M3Ds because of a relocation to the US... but one supposedly had a damaged tonearm. 600€ for the pair... sigh)

Might as well stick to k2s... in a year I've seen maybe two m3ds and an m5g.

Trust me guys, I have the upmost respect for Technics. Everything I did was for the best intentions. It could have been worse, ive seen some tacky mods. Straight tone arm, lights under the platter, UV led mods.

Trying to get my hands on some replacement stickers for the branding and ill be changing the slipmats to something a little less flashy.

Ive had shelves for vinyl for a while now. I already have a bit of a collection, however, im going DVS (Serato). Im believeing of either an Ecler Nuo 2.0, A&H Xone 22 or going straight for a Rane 61. Borrowing a friends DJM 700 for right now though.

Phwoar

The only problem with TTs is that you gotta find room for a set of shelves, for the vinyl now too.

.... and buy a mixer lol

Not sure how much performance I was putting into an S4 to be honest. Im not a controllerist at all. I actually prefer more A-B mixing with some flair. My overall goal is to add a Rane 62 (switching to Serato) and upgrade my laptop.

The S4 was promoting bad habits i.e. bombarding every track with effects, an obligation to always have at least two tracks running and "proper" use of samples. As a DJ who plays D&B (who have reputations for being stubborn lol) I feel that a track should speak for itself and that returning to the basics of mixing shouldnt be overlooked.

As for the beat matching (drifting and cueing) and conventional mixing, I simply DGAF (with all due respect).

Theres some truth to this. Some of the conversations here lack perspective because dj'ing style can and should be genre specific. Drum and bass is busy music. It's not made for "routines." It's made to mix. Even when Craze was doing strictly drum and bass sets, the vast majority was A to B mixing with some scratching.

But now using all that time you had to put into a performance for your set, you get to spend it adjusting tempo, fixing drift, and making sure the songs beat matched for your standard A B Mixing

How is that not MORE boring hehe

Grats on your decks, Ive got a pair of mk5g i havent used in 5 years :/
