Just Got Paid for the First Time

It's like free money.

This particular show was at a church-owned recreational facility in my town and I played for 1 hour and helped them film a "Harlem Shake" (so much fun.)! The organizer mentioned any money left over from organizing their event (a 30 hour famine) would go to me. I have played here 4 times now as I used to attend Youth Group there and they were free gigs, so I thought "Okay, like 25$-50$ bucks. Awesome!". Wrong. The organizer just contacted me and they're paying me $150. I am astounded.

It feels like free money because I am doing something I love, and it's a very foreign feeling getting paid to do something I legitimately enjoy every second of, from set up to tear down. I am speechless and over joyed right now. I just wanted to tell you guys because you have all been such a help in getting me started DJ'ing and now I want to know:

How did you feel the first time you got paid? What kind of show was it? How long was it?

Our break fortunately was at one of the larger clubs here in Los Angeles.....where we are still residents and actually playing this Saturday!

But we've also had our fair share of deadbeat promoters too....it's a doggie dog world out there.....

Getting paid to do something you love has got to be one of the best things in life!

For me personally - the first gig where I got paid wasn't fun - but the money made up for it

One of the best feelings going..

Play what you want to hear, free drinks, respect earned, getting paid!

Does it get much better? (It does when you add getting laid)

Thanks for the props and stories guys! I've been on a film set all day (another passion) and the feeling is still right in my chest. I love music and the people it connects.

Nice one matey - spend it all on booze and women

(The first time I got paid I was a noob and got suckered, but like you said that first decent break you would do for free anyway so I wasn't too pissed)
