Great comment from one of the old school.... From FB in reference to the concept of DJ's on stages/DJ's as Pop/Rock stars and the fact that some "crowds" just stand and watch.
Terry Farley
the 'crowd ' ( they used to be called DANCERS ) have forgotten or are to young to understand they are supposed to be the stars / the peacocks / the ace faces .. its the DJ's job to provide the soundtrack to a great party - nothing more nothing less
If only a few more DJ's understood this.
PS - if you don't know who Terry Farley is ........ no comment. |

Its exactly the kind of vibe that a truly great evening
should have. Well worth a watch if you've not seen it yet.

Yeah, someone chucked a water bottle and he just turned the music off and walked off. He came back about 10 minutes later, but there was no music for the whole time. Crazy. He tweeted about it the next day, saying how could someone do this at an event he has been building for the past 8 years (at the time).
I tried finding some press on the Yousef incident, and stumbled across this; huge coincidence...

That is a massive coincidence. Were you there?
I remember him tweeting about it straight after being in massive stress saying he's never going to DJ at Circus again. I told him to chill out and not let one idiot spoil it for everyone!
I remember him saying it was a full bottle of water, so don't really blame him for going back on his words slightly of not shutting the music off. I thought he'd said it was at the end of his set though, as he was walking off anyway. Could be wrong on that. |

Do you know what Biggles, that's pretty much what I was believeing of, it's almost as if a new gen who don't give a flying wotsit about proper club culture and it's history have started coming to the clubs, seems to coincide with the recent rise in mainstream popularity of dance music or the dreaded 'EDM'. But that's my only two penneth worth. |

Latina Samon 02.05.2013 | Yeah mUmU's decent, grittier!
Sounds like a decent plan anyway!
Yeah I know the guy running the Luciano evening
. Awesome lineup but I'll be away. The venue looks amazing from the pics of the last event there.
As for the new name, I can't see it catching on for a few years! |
Elvis Woodis 02.05.2013 | Never been to mUmU, would like to go. Been to Chibuku a few times.
I'm actually away this weekend - me and some friends have booked a cottage in the peak district - nothing but alcohol, ***s, techno and dancing. Taking the decks and four sets of speakers. I hope there is nothing but badgers and squirrels within a 3 mile radius.
Not even been to Circus in ages. Need to get myself there. There's been so much on in Leeds and Manchester lately that I've not bothered. I did fancy the Luciano thing in a church? Looks awesome. Lazarus would be amazing I imagine. Never seen him but always been a fan.
You can't call it Masque now - it's the East Village Arts Club (Ha - terrible name). |
Latina Samon 01.05.2013 | Yeah there's nothing you can do to stop idiots getting in. Circus pulls in a decent crowd but you do get some whoppers as well, specially when someone more well known is on (Easter Sunday had loads of idiots).
You going on Sunday? Very tempted to see Art Dep and Lazarus but I'll see them in Ibiza over summer no doubt. Really wanted to see the new Masque as well.
mUmU probably gets a better crowd than Circus. Been to any? |
Elvis Woodis 01.05.2013 | Yeah I was there (the one where he got hit, not Mills) - it definitely wasn't the end of his set. It was right bang in the middle of the track and the music just went off. We were all stood around for at least 10 minutes before someone else jumped on, I believe it may have been Steve Lawler although I can't remember.
He did say a few hours later that he said that in the heat of the moment and he was pissed off, but was very disappointed that it had happened at his own evening
, that he'd worked so hard on. Unfortunately you will still get the drunken idiots anywhere who are never happy and just want to cause trouble. Shame.
I've seen people throw stuff at lots of events. Happens at WHP quite a lot. |

Augustine Mitzen 01.05.2013 | i hate lights, lasers and strobes |
Yu Santellano 01.05.2013 | I'd rather see all of these artists doing DJ sets in club environments to be fair, rather than standing around a festival tent or whatever while everyone looks on.
Bear in mind I know that some of them bring shows etc. and have partners to do the mixing while they entertain the crowd, and then you're talking about a whole different thing. But the whole "watching one guy mix on his own" thing is outright strange imo. |
