Scratching in non-hip hop genres?

Does it work or does it backfire? How/Can it be tastefully done?

I like scratching outside of hip hop just fine.

You could tease the track coming in - I like to fade in while scratching the first beat and drop it in time with the track that's already playing.

check out DJ Ricky Jay ( djrickyjay.com ) or droppingneedles.com , ricky jay does lots of scratching with dance songs ( top 40, electronic, etc. ) for the droping needles website , skip to ricky's set within the podcasts, if you go with his website the canada tour mix has some tight clean scratching.

It can be done in house music, no cutting just scratching, but you gotta be really fast.

I cut up or scratch or both, the kicks or snares when dropping a song into a mix normally, but when I get into house (don't play dubstep or trapstep or any other genre off the beaten path) I generally just blend or drop in songs, but I do sometimes scratch in a kick and I aslo will echo scratch out a vocal or prominent instrumental of a house song from time to time. I don't do an all out scratch solo in a middle of a house song, and very very rarely do that with any genre really
