Converting Large files to MP3
Posted on: 28.06.2013 by Ashlyn Gaulrapp
I made a mash-up of 2 songs and recorded it, but the files size now is huge! :O i used two songs around 10MBs each but the 5 minute mash-up came out to be over 50MBS... I want to convert it to a 320kbps file to upload to soundcloud. Are there any free ways of doing this?

mmm maybe some of those cheesy free ones :

lamedrop is free and is the best encoder around - just drop your files on it and wait for the goodness.

The only converter software you'll ever need is FREE:

Ended up using iTunes, it's very simple once you get your settings right. Just click and convert Thanks

Nothing, it just takes up more space and usually doesn't sound any better than VBR. Years ago not all players would support VBR so CBR was often recommended, these days not so much.

The real question is why use MP3 instead of AAC.

I use MP3Gain for that.

What's wrong with CBR???

Looks like it's just a GUI for FFMPEG and doesn't actually convert anything itself so it's not as bad as I expected.

CBR is a waste of space though and the program doesn't offer any VBR options, and of course offers no volume controls for those undergained recordings.

Yeah - I'm always wary of that!

I've been using it for at least a year now, no issues whatsoever - does exactly what it says it does, and does it well.

Looks like a nice wee app mate. Don't get too click happy with the install though, looks like it wants you to add a yahoo toolbar etc.

I only use it to convert from .wav/.flac/.aiff to 320 .mp3.

But if there is a well established reason NOT to use this type of freeware to convert to .mp3, I'll reconsider...

Personally, i use audition because thats what i master my mixes in anyway. but coverting to 128's for podomatic, i just do it in iTunes.

Can anyone give me a good reason NOT to use Converterlite???

It's easy to use, reliable, and sounds perfectly good to my ears...

But I'm always open to suggestions...

iTunes is fine. Check the conversion options you want in the import tab.

Yes sir you are indeed correct. Not having Itunes on any on my win7 machines, I appear to have forgotten that it's multi platform .
