Yeah but he's using the Mixtrack Pro - which does have a soundcard

Check your 'Output Routing' settings in Traktor

You cant use your laptop speakers and your headphones at the same time. Basically, you cant run two seperate soundcards. If you're playing music out of your laptop, you are using your laptops soundcard. if you want to pre listen your songs from your mixtrack in your headphones, you need to use your mixtracks soundcard. You just need speakers that have the ability to be plugged into the back of your mixtrack, so that theres no need for you to use your laptops soundcard. Hope this helps.

1st: Try using vdj, if that doesn't solve the issue, then it's a hardware problem, either in the headphones OR in the MTP.
2nd: Try another pair of headphones. If you're using 1/4 to 1/8 adapters, try switching them, the adapter might be causing the problem.
(I assume you know your way thru hardware volume&cue controls on the MTP)

3rd If vdj does indeed work, your problem lays either in an audio driver failed configuration, or in traktor's output routing.

R mixtrack pro 2

output master> L mixtrack pro 3
