How often/long do you practice your craft? Personally, I play until I make a shitty transition and hate myself for it. I usually come back for more an hour later.

I will stop a shitty transition...sort out a better track...start the previous track just before the mix...

Quick question, what is that alarm plug on the back?? I see it, I'm just not sure what it does...

I see in your signature you have a Xone S2. How's that mixer?

I know Northern Soul DJs that don't even mix. They just drop one record after the other plays out and they make stupid money. They pack venues.

Depending on your style and if you play out a lot. There isn't much need to practice. Everything is built off the same grid. Know your tunes IMO.

*edit*
Obviously this means you've put in the work to learn how to mix and hone your craft.

I'm flirting with the idea of producing atm. There are so many shitty DJs right now locally. Alot of them are just local band members who believe the hipster thing to do is spin vinyl without learning how to mix. But they're getting booked and I'm not. So production, yes.

TBH the more you advance up the DJ career ladder the less you practice due to so many other commitments like interviews, other press, meetings....if you run a label that takes up alot of time, weekly podcasts...I know at least 50 top flight DJs who don't even have decks anymore.

Prep and production, that is where the time should go.

I've never called it practicing either. I've always just called it mixing. I only get a few hours a week these days. I work late and my apartment is pretty hollow. I get about 1 evening a week and Saturday afternoon. My girlfriend absolutely hates my music, so that doesn't help. I get it though. It's hard to find anybody that actually likes dnb. I usually just spend the time to learn new tunes and how they work with other tunes. Just shit like the key and 48 or 64 bar intro or 16 or 32 bar breakdown. Make mental notes of tunes that drop at funky times and figure out where vocals are in the tune. I don't even view mixing as "dj'ing." It's more about interacting with the music that moves me.

I mix once or twice a week for an hour or two at a time. That is when I can find the time, which is difficult with a job, wife, 2 kids and a dog.

Not enough right now as I have to store my gear in boxes due to not having a table to use them on. I've been meaning to build a custom one for 6 months or so but just never get round to it.

I reckon I use them for an hour every 2-3 weeks which is rubbish!

We're like DJ twins. After work with a nice cold one. That's how I do.
