that is taking the stereo out and making it into 2 stereo lines. It can't be used with iOS devices because they only send 1 stereo out. So basically using that cable would give you a master and headphone on each output. That cable can be used if 2 people want to use headphone at same time.

Gahhh... GRIFFIN was the name of other company I was believeing of that made stuff like this! I found it on TigerDirect for $12 but Griffin is selling it for $18 on their site. Not a big change in marketing there. Regardless, you can totally disregard my last post now.

Actually, this is different. The one you bought back then split the stereo signal into two stereo signals. This splits it into left and right channel.

Does everyone understand the difference between a stereo splitter and a dual mono splitter? That what we're all talking about here:

Stereo splitter - starts of as ONE L+R, and both L+R's get split, then combined TOGETHER again.

------------> L+R
---L+R
------------> L+R

This effectively gives you TWO IDENTICAL (stereo) outputs.

Dual Mono splitter - starts of as ONE L+R, and both L+R's get split, then combined SEPARATELY again:

------------> L+L
---L+R
------------> R+R

This effectively gives you TWO DIFFERENT (Dual Mono) outputs.

There is also a Mono Splitter (not much use to anyone):

Dual Mono splitter - starts of as ONE L+R, and both L+R's get split:

------------> L
---L+R
------------> R

Not great, bcause, you'll only get audio in one speaker, and one side of your headphone. Of course, this is usable, and buying one of these and some additional mono > dual mono cables will do exactly the same job as the Dual Mono splitter. But, you'll have additional connections in your signal path, and some people don't like that! (It doesn't bother me - if I can save a few quid with some "creative cabling" then I will!)

They are making stereo-to-mono splitters. What did you mean?

this cable is probably just like the djay cable, which is a dual stereo if you use with something that can output dual stereo. I have the djay cable and use it with djay on my itouch, it is a dual stereo.

I like that this NI cable has an L-shape connector. It's not a game changer or anything and not necessarily worth $20, but it's at least *A* reason that this would be more ideal to get than any other similar product.

Yeah, though I'd personally prefer a lightening adaptor Oh well, I knew it was unlikely when I saw it connected to the headphone socket, but you never know...

Like a 30-pin adapter with an NI DAC in it and two 3.5mm sockets? That would've been pretty cool for the TDJ users out there tbh.

Same goes for all other audio+digital cables. Maybe you could add that to your product descriptions.

I nearly posted a thread about this mocking the product (or more accurately its price), but figured I'm not exactly the best person to be bashing the cable industry considering how it's going to be my bread and butter for the foreseeable future

With that said, there ARE some cheaper alternatives out there, and this doesn't do anything significantly differently to them. The tricky thing is finding one which splits a stereo input into two joint stereo outputs; one from the left channel and one from the right channel; rather than just splitting a stereo signal into two MONO channels, or duplicating both stereo channels.

Tbh, if there's actually any interest in the NI cable, I could probably come up with a funky-looking alternative

I love NI, but this is a little over the top, just for a little branding. But I guess it will appeal to the people that buy monster cables and beats headphones. Good business though, the markup on those is huge. Pretty unspectacular tho

I'll have to buy it because NI made it. It's only logical.
