usb2 vs usb3 in a dj midi controller? Posted on: 04.09.2013 by Pierre Massner Is there any advantage to having usb3 in the controller itself or no meaningful difference or is the controller itself not even a 2 or 3 type device? Thanks | |

Salena Bonjean 05.09.2013 | I'm using 4 MIDI-controllers and an 8 channel audio-card (Allen & Heath Xone:DB2) on one single USB2 port. I'm sending up to 4 stereo outputs and recording up to 3 stereo inputs and never had a single dropout. So it seems that there is no need for using USB 3.0 i guess. Not yet... |
Layne Koop 04.09.2013 | For "pure" MIDI, even USB 1.1 has sufficient bandwidth...for everything except the heaviest cue point juggling. In any event USB 2 is more than enough for any "pure" MIDI device. In fact, USB2 is more than enough for even MIDI + soundcard devices (e.g. S2, S4). |
Pierre Massner 04.09.2013 | Thanks.....'Something', yes indeed and sooner rather than later I hope. |
Jonathan Chiuchiolo 04.09.2013 | not really... midi/HID doesn't send enough data to choke with USB 2.0. If you wanted to run a video screen onboard the device you would need USB 3.0.. Hopefully it's something we will be seeing soon though. |
