Sticking with traktor and not turning a sheep!!!! thank you very much!!!
too many exclamation marks bro.

stick with what you want no one is trying to convert you, this is just exciting for those who do use serato.

I didn't buy the SL box because I wanted to be forced into upgrades. If I had wanted that, I would have gone with Traktor. It's a different way of doing things. I am bothered that when I bought my SL1 box, the SL2 and up were not even out yet. So it wasn't an option. I did buy it used, from one of best friends who bought it brand new. He purchased an SL3 box right after (brand new) to replace it.

I fully plan on buying an SL4 box. This will hasten my decision on that. It's for personal reasons (because I'd really like to get a 3rd deck and practice 3 deck mixing) and it's also something that I would utilize for my crew, as most of us use Serato and it would be very nice for transitions or tag-team sets.

But I am really bothered about the lack of Serato DJ support with the SL1 box. I don't like the comparison to Rekordbox because Pioneer has never made any pretense of having support for their products for the life of the product. It was one of the BIGGEST reasons why I chose Serato over Traktor, and it took me awhile to decide.

It's like if NI decided that they were no longer going to support the Audio 4 and Audio 8. It's just fucking dumb is what it is. I still prefer Serato over Traktor, but it's something I'm not going to be happy about for a long time. There are a LOT of Serato DJ's who use an SL1 box. Maybe it's a money-grabbing plan to eliminate older hardware on the market.

But in the end, I know it's just something that comes out of my pocket at the end of the day. I'm not going to be happy about it, I'll probably suck it up and upgrade the Serato box, but with this announcement, it's also a huge hit to whatever resale value I might have had to upgrade the box. I doubt Serato will do anything as far as a "trade-up" program would be concerned, but if they do, (like some companies, even in the electronics industry do) then it would turn my bitching into praise.

I just don't like to be told "oops your shit is being discontinued, please spend at least $500 to continue"
10 years is a lifetime when it comes to technology. If anything i'd commend them for supporting for so long (remember the SL1 is USB 1.1 and I believe the 57SL is USB 1.1 as well). By no means will either products be useless, Serato explained they will still have Serato Scratch Live available for download which will still be compatible with SL1 and the 57SL.

While NI continue to support the Audio 4 and Audio 8, it's possible Scratch Pro 3 could drop support when it arrives (don't freak out, i'm just speculating).

sorry but very, very NOT true.

*cough* Stanton Srcratch Amp.
and that was after a much shorter time.

10 years is legit in my books. Plus they are honest about it. In other industries, gear simply breaks after 2 years and a month.

In some way it's in Pioneer's interest to keep Serato and Traktor as big rivals by supporting both fairly equally... they know that as long as software wise there is division then hardware wise they are in a strong position to be the "industry standard" company.

What is up with the love between Serato and Pioneer? Been waiting since the SX came out for the Traktor version, yet here we are, almost a year later, still no official TSI, no DDJ-TX, but two brand new Serato based products...

i believe a few controllers are gonna look more of an alternative to some people that are looking at serato dj when its fully integrated with everything, ex. the vestax 380 and 400; not only will you have full control of serato dj but you then wont need to but that pio controller to take advantage of the other stuff. They are also more portable.

integrated mixers are a weird thing - realistically you cant expect to haul them out to a place that has their own setup, you cant always expect them to be available everywhere you go... im really more excited about the prospect of using an sl4 with that new pio controller. i have a ddjsx at home so this really just brings everything together in a very convenient and CONSISTANT way

The SL1 was discontinued in April 2011, and will continue to get bug fixes and full support until 2015.

Almost 4 years of free support for a discontinued product sounds pretty reasonable to me...

dual USB ports + a usb hub similar to the z2 would have made the DJM900SRT a much better mixer in my opinion. Dont believe I will need to upgrade my DJM900

Uhh, the Audio 4 and Audio 8 don't actually work with the newest features that the Audio 6/10 have, for the exact same reasons that the SL1 isn't being pushed forward. You aren't having your hardware snuffed out, you just aren't capable of using the newest and greatest features that the newer hardware is capable of delivering. You knew that when you bought it. People weren't complaining when the Audio 4/8 weren't compatible with direct thru, because it wasn't possible, and the cards weren't currently supported.

Likewise, there's nothing stopping you from using your SL1 with SSL, exactly what you bought it for, you just aren't going to be able to use all the new stuff your hardware cant handle bussing, namely the updated SDJ. "Supporting the product for it's life" doesn't mean "we're rooting all of our technology around our first entry." The life of the SL1 ended several years ago.

summed it up in one, like he said, the sl1 is 10 years old now... if its lasted that long then i'm pretty sure buying evan a used sl2 would be a great investment for you.

Comparing the two (Serato DJ and Traktor) right now side by side, it's really is good seeing competition at it's finest.

I still am absolutely bothered and angry about the lack of SL1 support. I have posted in the Q&A about a possible upgrade path for owners of the SL1, but I don't know if there will be a response. I just helped two close friends purchase the SL1 box, have one myself, and now this means that even if not immediately if I want to stick with outdated software, I have to purchase an SL2, SL3, or SL4 because lets face it, I'm not going to buy myself a mixer with an integrated Serato box without having a Serato box to bring to gigs when they won't be using a mixer with integrated Serato support.

I really like where they are going with the combination DVS and Controller support. It's a smart and necessary move on Serato's part. The FX and other things that are coming to the table are great.

I still can't get over not supporting the TTM57SL or SL1 though. That's going to be a HUGE sticking point with a TON of DJ's that I know. I don't believe I'll ever switch to Traktor, but I know there are a lot of people who have thought about it, and this might be the straw that breaks the camel's back for those on the fence.
Why would you be upset over a lack of support? You bought used, outdated, discontinued hardware at a massive discount, and then expected that hardware to carry over to the next generation? Rane doesn't make SL1's/57s anymore, why would their partner company design products for a used market? I don't see any outrage that Rekordbox isn't inherently compatible with CDJ-1000's.

the only company laughing at this is pioneer, they are pretty much monopolizing this shit: cdj, compatible with the two biggest software in the game, cause I am pretty sure no one will be requesting the sixty four over a 900srt, wont be long until there will 900 that supports bothserato and traktor. shits crazy

I like the hardware releases more than I like the DVS/controller streamlining. It's the first time in a while that I've seen a true neck and neck race between two high end manufacturers. It's nice to see two quality oriented companies duke it out toe-to-toe, rather than Pioneer/Rane dominating a particular market, and the rest of the companies just slathering out plastic shit.

I wonder if this is the first in a series of product announcements before the BPM show in the UK. I know Serato doesn't participate in BPM but some companies, particularly NI, tend to make product announcements close to trade shows like that.

not necessarily related to the djm & i may get slated for saying this but i believe its about time they streamlined it, i mainly use ssl but also have a twitch which i use with dj for mobiles or gigs that either don't have gear , or if i dont know what gear im walking into, just makes sense to have it all in one program.

what will be interesting to know is if i can hook up both my twitch and sl2 and have 4 decks
