Reply to Newb Scratching w/ vinyl Questions

I found an old Technics SL-D20 turntable, its direct drive, uses p-mount cartridges, and thats about all I know.

could i scratch with this?

will it ruin the turntable (motor, or whatever)?

What type of needle is preferred?

what type of vinyl is preferred (thick/thin not sure what the technical terms are)?
