S4 + Midi Fighter

S4 + Midi Fighter

Hi,

Just curious to see how many people out there have used this set up and what they have done/believe of it?

I currently use my Midi Fighter for all 8 Hot cue's on both decks, works nicely!

I personally believe that is a great idea. That's actually what I was believeing myself.

And about the buttons being a waste? I don't believe so I believe that those buttons are top notch, and their rapid-fire action can come in really nicely when using them to activate effects.

I don't normally cue point juggle. That's just me. Of course, on the fly, I do once in a while if I believe of something really creative to fit into my set in the moment. And I believe 4 hot cues (3 actually, since I usually reserve Cue 1 for the first downbeat) is perfect for me.

I don't know why, but I prefer to let tracks play through, and use effects to remix and "color" on the fly. Loops rolls, slicers, filters, gaters, flangers, etc. And because I like to use effects completely in the moment without any planned thought behind it, having idiot-proof button/triggering system during an insane performance makes it reliable. And pro. It certainly looks a ZILLION times cooler than any external effects unit out there. Kaos Pad in second lol.

I'm using just a slightly modded version of Ean's Mf_1_1 mapping it works spot on for me, i had a slight problem at the start when i imported it it knocked the soundcard out, but i just quit TPS4 and restarted it, works grand now! :/

I would really like to see a TPS4 mapping though, i'm completely new to mapping controllers so I find it relatively hard to grasp! *tear* lol

Got mine today, works fine with the DJTT mappings I tried, but I'm going to do my own.

That would be pretty cool, Maybe have Freeze delay in there to allow for Ean's lil trick to change tempo's! :P

This is my initial thought. Have four buttons mapped to key, different values of reverb, delay, and flanger each. Shift for super buttons that trigger effects in chained mode. My thought is to maybe have different mappings for different genre's and what suits those genre's better. I don't use the Beatmasher or Slicer much with House and Techno, but if you're playing a more electro set you can load up your genre specific mapping.

I'm interested in hearing more about a S4 + MF combo. It's the setup I'm currently considering buying

I'm using this mapping at the moment, http://www.djranking s.com/community /showthread.php?t=10137 ,
With a few tweaks but to solve your problem with the effects acting on both decks at the same time...While holding shift, press play, and an led lights up to assign a deck A-D and i dont know if its just on the S4 but the effects are then deck specific, including the sample banks.

If this could be used with more effects maybe as a toggle shift it would be class, just sayin! :P

Oh and one more thing, I believe that having control over the effects knobs in the S4 is important. Why? For one they are there. I just feel if something is there, it should be made useful, if it can.

For me, the two most common effects, reverb and delay, are necessary for adding flavor to the track. Well, not necessary, but they are great for adding that extra spice while your hands are free. For effects like these, I believe they need a knob to control the parameters, or the wet/dry.

The reason I even say this is because I'm using the Deckalize mapping now, and it's knocked out a bit of the functionality of the effects controls on the S4 for me. I'm not able to assign the effects deck 1 (the only effects deck that seems to be untouched by the mapping) to the B and D decks. So as it stands I'm limited to either using the S4 layout or Deckalize effects, but not both.
