Using S4's Input Channel C&D as External Mixer for Kontrol X1 & Audio 2 Setup
Posted on: 18.05.2011 by Nita Klauer
Hi,

I'd like to know if I can use a Kontrol S4 (only plugged in to the power outlet, not USB-connected to a notebook) and use Decks C&D as standalone mixer to a Macbook connected to a Kontrol X1 and Audio 2 DJ sound card.

I've tried plugging the 2 RCA outputs to Input Channel C&D, set as "Line" and "Thru" on Input Deck D, and "Line" on Input Deck C.

However, I'm unable to hear Deck C, or use the Cue buttons to listen on the headphones.

Is this possible or does a Kontrol S4 always need to be plugged in via USB?

Thanks in advance!

Best Regards,

Daniel

Will the EQs/Faders work then?

Thanks!
Yes, that will work, you need to set them accordingly by clicking on the deck letter. You can also use them for timecode control if you have it enabled.

Remember the S4 is a controller with a soundcard, not a mixer.

Shame! :-(

So, what's input C & D for? They need to be used via USB? If I use 2 CDJs can I plug them into Input C & D as long as the S4 is plugged in via USB?

Will the EQs/Faders work then?

Thanks!

Nope, only channel D as thru (no EQ or fader) works without a USB connection.
