Question about "crash" control with s4
Hey everyone,

I'm using TSP2 with 2 channel mixer and my x1 and midi fighter.

The flying spaghetti monster is great, but I don't like him showing up to my gigs in the form of usb cables.

I also like jog wheels for beatmatching, but I dont really wanna lug my cdj800s with cds.

The cdj350's have usb which makes me want a pair of them.

At the end of the day, I really like mixiing with traktor because I have been using it for a year or so now. I like the idea of showing up with just music for a gig but my comfort zone is inside of traktor.

So I have been looking into the S4 and the MC6000.

ideally, I want to plug in the S4, plug in my laptop, connect them together and run the master out of the S4 to a XLR to the sound system without anything else in the way.

One local said he attempted to do this but it wouldn't work, but he has since sent it back to NI directly for a reissue or something so that was just probably a lemon.

The only thing that is stopping me from using the S4 is that I want to have back up incase the macbook explodes.

I have been using traktor pro 2 now for at least 20 hours of gigging and the keylock brings the cpu meter up but doesn't cause any real problems.

I've had more problems with hardware then software so far it seems.

So I been looking around the net and I just need to rephrase this in my own words and have someone clear it up for me.

If I use the s4 and its plugged in AC. I can run an ipod on channel D put it on "thru" and have an emergency mix ready for the crash. The computer crashs, I hit play and manipulate the master volume til its ok and start rebooting.

If I have traktor working ok, and I have the ipod setup like that, can I still use channel D for mixing as per usual or do I have to make the thru switch before I can get the ipod to work after the crash.

So this is what I believe the ordr of operations is:

playing>crash>hit play on ipod> adjust volume> troubleshoot

is it actually like this:

playing>crash>find back of controller and switch the little tiny thru switch>it play> trouble shoot

The lack of mess also increases my practice time because often the set up time is enough to stop me from practicing when I get a free 45 minutes.

This also leaves one usb slot free for an X1 if I wanted or a midi fighter.
