NI S4 - A&H Xone 4D Comparison.

Decided to take the plunge and order a Kontrol S4. Have a big gig coming up and there is definately no room in the booth for the 4D.... so imagine my thoughts when I open the S4 - it's even bigger!

It is obviously a lot lighter and more portable, but still has a bigger base size which I was unsure about, should have looked it up though.

I've only used it for about 20 minutes but very impressed. In my opinion the faders and knobs have a better feel to them than the 4D, and all and all it feels like a much better controller to use. 4D has it's place though, but Traktor and S4 together is ideal. Really impressed with the quality of it.

Think I'm going to sell my Audio 4 and Xone 1D now as I have no need for them. Here's a few pics for size comparison after I unboxed it, and also my new DJ cabinet I had custom built for me. It's wrapped in white vinyl with matt oak shelves inside. It was built to have my 15" MBP, 2 CDJ 400's and 4D on it, and they fit perfectly.

The S4 is huge indeed.

Sure but it's overkill. If you have the money for a 4D, sell the S4

I've got a question.

I have the S4 and i LOVE IT!
I was believeing maybe .. to buy an 4D for deck C&D in traktor! Is that possible?

Great pics, cheers!

the 4d is the better hardware for sure, and it looks sexier to me too.

... but the S4 is so useful & practical ... and I believe it's waste to buy a 4D now, if you're aiming at Traktor only.

Still, the 4D looks a lot sexier than the S4,in my opinion.I really like the rough look of the Xone mixers.

I would keep the 1D and A4 just in case you want to cart less stuff or are booked at a gig with a little or none free room.

This is the topic why I registered to this community .
I'm very indecisive whether to by S4 or 4D.

I guess you experienced with your S4 since you buy it.
Can you tell me which one I've to go ?

Which has better built quality ?
Which has better sound quality ?
Does S4 has enought functions in CD decks as D4 ? (cause D4 seems to have more controller buttons in CD decks).

To keep in mind, I'll only use it with laptop & traktor pro 2 software. Money has no importance in my decision. I dont wanna use any other stuff like cd players, effect box etc.
Thank you.

Try putting the 4D on top of a turntable with deck savers on it.

I'm not getting rid of either, but the S4 is better for what I need. Had a good session last evening and this is a seriously good piece of kit and software. The instant plug and play is what I've always needed, no more faffing around with the controller editor etc.

I love the sample decks, and what you can do with loops, sampling etc, it really does take capabilities and creativity to a whole new level, or at least opens the doors to someone who wouldn't feel comfortable doing this on the normal Traktor Pro software.

Just compare the sound quality between them, with your monitors, then you should keep the xone (in external mode)

I love gear porn!!!

Awesome shots man. Please once you played on the S4 for a few days give us a full review. Would love to hear your likes and dislikes in comparision to each other and sound quality difference.

Enjoy man, sweet set up!
