s4 monitor
s4 monitor Posted on: 01.07.2011 by Raleigh Hertle Am I to understand that when I'm running the S4 into an external audio card into my Mac that I cannot monitor from the S4 headphones while I have my in/out settings set to this external card?Because this is absolute bs. I have my monitors running off my profire610 and the S4 running TRS outputs into my audio card. When I set the prefs in Traktor to Profire so I can hear my Audio, I can no longer hear the headphone monitor, but when I switch back to the s4 in the traktor prefs I get the monitor but obviously now my profire setup doesn't output. WTF! what a piece of shit controller. I want to enjoy this damn thing, but why do you make it so f'ing hard. The S4 as an audio controller is a latency filled piece of crap. Why can't I use it with my damn audio interface AND get a damn monitor. Now I gotta spend more money, more damn cables to fix this damn piece of shit so it'll work the way it should work. | |

Kristofer Krauel 02.07.2011 | Other option is to sell your s4 and get a controller you can understand!! If it's so bad!!! |
Ok Moroski 02.07.2011 | So, if I understand your post (and that's making quite a leap considering how angry/poorly written it is), you want to keep your monitors attached to your profire 610 while using the S4's headphone monitoring output and the S4 card for Traktor? Seems pretty simple: Set your S4 as the soundcard standardly in Traktor, then route the TRS cables from the S4 into the 610. Then have the 610 route the input from the S4 to your monitors using whatever software/drivers you would use to route the 610 inputs to speakers normally. Thus the S4 is your Traktor soundcard, and your 610 is acting simply as an audio-through bus. If this isn't working, you need to learn to set it up properly or it's the fault of your Profire. I know I could do this exact setup with my Presonus Firebox anyway if I needed to. |

Leeanna Ayla 01.07.2011 | Your attitude is not very conducive to people actually helping you. Please tone it down a little. |
Addie Engbrecht 01.07.2011 | I've never owend a 610 or really dealt with one, but someone I know has one and I know that they could cue the headphones to monitor with it. In fact I remember him telling me that the headphone volume wasnt great because the card was made more for studio than dj'n. Again I'm no expert, but apparently it can be done thru the 610. Raleigh Hertle 01.07.2011 | Also the reason I want a direct connection is because I value accuracy. Running the S4 as my audio card or routing it's signal through some program is not good enough, not fast enough. Sorry. I wan't to be able to use the cue mix controls on the s4 without having to make some stupid aggregate laggy digital route and control the mix with a mouse. So I guess we'll see if my monitors handle two inputs when I get the appropriate cables tomorrow, and then we can finally have a setup where I'm not unplugging and replugging cables to get sound from final cut on my computer or switching to the s4 |
Raleigh Hertle 01.07.2011 | lol fancy routing. You mean using cables like us old folks used to do in ye olde times? If you have something to help my situation by pointing me to a driver or a piece of software, great. Otherwise don't act like a smug little shit. |
Nedra Fresneda 01.07.2011 | You are seriously complicating yourself for no reason. Anyone else would just build an aggregated device (or it's equivalent with ASIO), there is no need to do any fancy routing. |
Raleigh Hertle 01.07.2011 | Yeh I fixed the problem already. Running a headphone output from the 610 doesn't work because you get no precue for mixing. Luckily my monitors have xlr and trs inputs. So here is hoping my monitors can play two inputs so I can direct output TRS-XLR from the s4 and than trs-trs from the 610 to my monitors. That way I can actually use this s4 in a setup without unplugging and plugging over and over and over and over. Still doesn't fix the problem for all the others who don't have similar monitors. Would be nice if the headphone had it's own preamp rather than relying on the S4's main soundcard. |
Nedra Fresneda 01.07.2011 | You are seriously asking this? Search the community s, stop blaming hard/software. |
Addie Engbrecht 01.07.2011 | SO you want Traktor to run 2 soundcards at the same time, right? Traktor cant do that. Do you absolutely need to be running the 610? If so, you'll have to use the 610 as your headphone output. |
