BPM/ Beat matching problems
BPM/ Beat matching problems Posted on: 08.07.2011 by Lacy Contrino Sometimes I feel like no matter how hard I try I cannot get the songs to match up. Even if they are the same bpm. And it only happens to me on some songs. I have tried switching back and forth from Beatsync and the other option but still songs will still kinda be off a little i've tried re-analyzing and doubling bpm in the beat grid area...I noticed it happens a lot with dubstep..I know to throw it in on the first beat and have the snares match up on the third but they still end up going off beat. Other than that I don't believe I am having lag problems i have a pretty fast computer. Is it the songs tempo changing themselves? Do I just suck? or should I start investing into WAV files so that way they are more in depth? Idk its really strange. Especially how its usually Dubstep. any ideas or help would be appreciated. | |

Lacy Contrino 11.07.2011 | Oh yeah I totally forgot about manually doing the beat grids that would probably help out a lot. I'm glad I wasn't the only one occasionally having this problem. Ill let you know if it goes well thanks : D |
Daisy Dotseth 10.07.2011 | With most of the 'bass' genres kicks are often poorly defined both visually and audio wise - you should always try mixing on the snare... Unless your tracks are properly gridded you can only use BPM as a guide - fortunately dubstep all sits at virtually identical BPM (140/70 depending on how you prefer it defined) so you always have a good starting point. Software will usually get it 'wrong' and not count the snare if most of your music is in one side of this range you should narrow the bpm detection range in traktor and it will get more accurate. I must say that since moving past traktor 3 and then Tpro 1 onto s4 and Tpro2 i find myself turning off sync and manually mixing a lot more than i ever did prior to S4. Firstly grids created in the earlier versions don't seem to work that well in versions past 1.x unless the music is really 'boring' I believe what has happened is that with increased accuracy in later versions the 'snap' of the beat is slightly different when setting grids. With the new ability to properly zoom into the wave i have found that the snap is pretty inaccurate and usually sits 'into' the beat. When i grid now, i zoom in and set it manually on the zero crossing of the beat - tracks done this way are spot on when syncing or firing from that cue point manually without sync. So its a bit of a blessing an a curse depending on how you look at it. Ultimately consistency is the main thing here so in my eyes you need to pick your method an stick with it if you want to rely on sync. Manual placing of your markers will be the safest as this is consistent and won't change based on software algorithm changes. Having all your tracks marked & defined from within the same version and technology will help too. Once you have set your grids remember to lock bpm |
Yee Bedilion 11.07.2011 | You could try to manually beatgrid the tracks and place markers on the snares I believe. Kick drum are not always exactly on beat, they tend to "swing" a bit. Sometimes it slightly ahead sometimes its slightly behind. Slight variations cause evening mares when trying to sync to tracks. Have a look into the DJTT blog and looks around and you'll find lots of answers about beatgridding. It all works too, there are loads of people kicking around here that successfully mix Dub-step. Nows your time Now I'll admit, the search function for the articles sucks. I search for something and I always get the lastest 2 or 3 articles before anything relevant comes up. Heres one to get you started: Yes, it is hip-hop, but if you can understand, then you can apply it to whatever you see fit. http://www.djranking s.com/2011/02/0...or/#more-10813 |
