Tracks getting "stuck" and looping options
Posted on: 09.07.2011 by Valarie Brunot
Hi Everyone,

I have been using the s4 for about 6 months now, and mostly have nothing but positive things to say about it. I have run into a few issues though and have a couple of questions I'm hoping someone can help answer.

-Sometimes a track won't play and I have to "push" the jog wheel to get it going. This is a pain and sometimes takes a few tries. I notice that when I press the "search" button, the track may start to play, but when I exit the search screen it stops. Is this some sort of glitch, or is this some setting I can turn off?

-I'd like to be able to toggle the "loop active" button on the s4... I can turn loops off by pressing in the loop wheel, but I can't turn them on without the loop wheel placing a loop whenever I press it. Is there a setting where I can change this?

Thanks in advance for the help making this awesome controller all the more awesome!

I've had the same problem recently, and it's messed up a few of my sets.

If I am able to get it working again, I just do what this guy did:

Flailing is always the solution.

I updated the software (as 2.0.2 had just came out). No help. Then I noticed the newer version (not sure if it was 2.0.3 or 2) had this new analyzer. I started working with it and did tweaking with it, then bam, the issue was gone.

If you get a replacement S4 and the issue is actually in the USB communication, then you will have the same issue with the new S4 too.

Well I went into the S4 control panel and tried changing my USB buffer from 1ms, to 2, 3, and 4ms. Also adjusted sample buffers on both the S4 & ASIO control panels. Ran the S4 audio diagnostics after each setting change and it passed each time. My maximum latency was listed as 150usecs or less each test. Overall latency varied between 7.5ms - 11ms.

And I was able to glitch out my S4 each time.

Thanks again for the help.

I just wanted to put this out there to support the other people who are experiencing similar problems.

No problem. Do let us know, if you got the issue resolved and how. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions but it's all good. I'm sending it in next week and getting it replaced. If it was just an audio crackle or something I would dig deeper into latency and USB buffers.

This is a short or something wrong with the S4 itself. I was literally pressing on the S4 and it was stopping the track. It should never do that.

Yes, but my tip is to raise the latency until the glitch stops. And I believe the change that did the trick was the USB buffer. I raised it and the issue was gone. Did you try playing with the latency analyzer built into the newer TP2 software? That is what helped me too.

If you have to make adjustments, which raise the latency so high the performance of the S4 suffers, then you either still have an issue with your computer or it is simply too slow to take care of the "Traktor Pro 2/ S4" job. Make sure you also have the most up-to-date software and drivers, as there is definitely a performance boost in them.

you have to hot cue loops to turn them on from a different location, if that's what you're asking

I'm not sure I understood, but if what your calling the 'loop wheel' is the right encoder, then the loop active button is the left one. If you want to activate a loop in advance press this one and not the loop size + set one. ?

I found that pressing and holding the LOAD button released the track on occasion. Still happens in 2.03 - not good

The tracks getting stuck is a relatively new issue that I believe came with TP2.0.3

I never experienced it prior, but have experienced it a few times since I upgraded.

It's random and it sucks!
