Reply to Filter (Gain Knob) on S2

I was wondering if its possible to get smooth sounding filter sweeps with the gain knob on the S2?

I'm believeing of buying an S2 I don't have any music stores near where I live so I cant try one out for myself. I'd read that the gain encoder has notches. Does this produce a weird almsot quantized sound when performing filter sweeps? Seems like that could potentially make it next to useless. Just in general, how does it feel using the gain knob as a filter?

I guess S4 users could also let me know how they would imagine it feels? The gain knob is the same on the S4 and the S2 right?
