Traktor S4 Hook up to external mixer issues
Posted on: 31.05.2012 by Jodi Garff
I have contacted Native Instruments but they still do not know what the problem is.

Hook up to power speakers: When using the S4 with direct powered speakers, my S4 is well.

However; if I need to hook up to an external mixer for unpowered speakers and power speakers, there becomes a real problem.
>

Sometimes there are no sound Or the song will play in the mix however; when I hit the CUE button on my
headphones, the song in CUE automatically play through the main speakers which it plays LIVE in the mix.

This has happen to me 5 times since ownership.

>hooking to an external mixer. berhinger mixer<
comment from Native Support:
"If the S4 is outputting sound directly to your monitor speakers, but not through
an external mixer it must be some setting in the mixer that is causing the
problem. Please contact behringer for further assistance.
By process of elimination and figuring out which devices in the audio path are
working and which are not we can narrow down the list of possible problems. If
the S4 is working correctly as designed, by itself then the problem cannot be the
S4. When another unit is added to the signal path, and a problem arises then it
must be the added unit."

I have tried different configurations with the output for sound and non work (cables and software).
>
on this Past Sunday, May 27, I got a lot of feedback from the RCAs. Even I used the 1 & 2 slots for 1/4 inch plugs to the external mixer and it did not work.

Using an external mixer

deck a = song is playing

Deck B = try to cue the mix in, hit cue button to listen in headphones however deck B plays LIVE/on air with deck A at simultaneously with the volume down and not live/on air.
output:Master left/ master right

my last resort was to play only off my laptop. I did not pay $900 USD for
playing music off my laptop.

I understand. I guess its a setback...

what other controllers doesnt have this issue?

It sucks when you have a gig and system doesnt work or not compatible with the external mixer.

what suggestions do you have for set up for gigs like these issues?
BTW i have a small mixer (non powered).

Thanks manchild for you help!

I have tried this before but didnt work on some external mixers.
Or on external mixer it would play but when cue-ing up the next song/track in the head phones, the track/song would play out live on the speaker.
Note: Traktor (Original version that came with the S4, it works fine)
Traktor 2 is now I am having the issues.

Can you send a screen shot of your settings? Thanks!

Traktor should be in "Internal Mixing" mode at all times when using the S4as far as your concerned. If you are plugging into an external mixer, you will be plugging into 1 channel on that mixer. If you want to adjust volume/gain/EQ on the MAIN mix, you can do so on that 1 channel on that external mixer if you really feel the need to. All Cue'ing, indvidual deck EQ'ing/volume/gains etc. can only be done thru the S4, not the extra mixer. Hope this helps

hooking to a power speakers works fine for me.

I have a non power speaker, full range Fender and a Mackie 450 which is powered. When I used a yamaha emx512sc mixer it works find.

Now when I hook up or some Beheringer mixer, there becomes an issue. Sometimes not sound.
or there will be sound and when I cue a track in my headphones it comes out live on the main speakers.

Anyone else having this problem?

Please help!!!!!!!!!!

Internal: is set for master right/master left

Do I need to set the External Mixer as well? currently nothing is assigned.
