Went To Demo Traktor Kontrol S2 & S4 Today, Few Q's...

So I've finally decided I'm fed up of having a full size setup (X:42/CDJ1000s/A6/X1 etc) and looking to move over to a portable setup for gigs. Main reasons being I'm fed up playing in clubs that don't have CDJs install, use mixers I'm not a fan of (DJM600 in particular) and having to move kit about and unplug decks etc when setting up.

Went to demo Kontrol S2 & S4 earlier, S2 too small and looks a bit 'toy-ish' so no longer interested in that. Quite impressed with the S4 though, good size and better build quality than was expecting. Only real problem I found was the terrible endless pots for gain control.

Few Q's though:

- Can you remap the Gain/Low/Mid/High control by moving them one down, so basically:

High pot=Gain
Mid pot=High
Low pot=Mid
Filter pot=Low

(I prefer to use Filter 92 instead of the individual filters anyway)

- Have read that making mapping changes loses HID control, do you basically have to use the default template to retain HID control with the jogwheels?

- How good is the headphone out on the S4? Didn't have my headphones with my to test earlier, but the headphone out on my Audio6 sound card is pretty poor.

Thanks,
Andrew.

If you want to remap parts of the original mapping you will have to create an anti-mapping (working exactly the opposite way the original mapping does) for the desired knobs first and then they'll be freeed up to get mapped again. But I'm not sure if you can do this with the EQ and filter section.
What you could definitely do very easily would be creating a new midi mapping for the S4 where the knobs are mapped to whatever you like. You can easily switch from default mapping into midi mode directly from the unit. Benefits of the default mapping like jogwheel HID would remain but of course this would meen having to switch everytime you like to twist an EQ knob. Not a final solution I guess.
Honestly, I wonder what you miss about the gain pots? I really like them as they feel quite accurate in my opinion.

How good is the headphone out?

Well, I'm not able to compare it with the Audio 6 (never had the chance to test or use it) and I fear you won't like if you already wasn't happy with the out of your Audio 6. However, I never felt something's wrong with the headphone out...
