Reply to Tips to perfect mashups?

I was wondering, while making mashups like, a different acapella with a different beat. What bpm should we match, acapellas bpm with the beat or match acapella with the beat? or shall I cut the acapella into pieces and play it through the song where my ear says it is good and melodic?
