midifighter classic - static sound when using beatmasher buttons
Posted on: 08.01.2012 by Cliff Lohman
Recently, my midifighter has been giving a staticy sound when using the beatmasher buttons (+ gater but to a lesser extent). It either happens when a button is pressed or released. It doesnt happen all the time but enough to be a problem.

I can use same effect parameters on x1 with no static.

Any ideas on possible causes? I've tried to adjust my latency and have tried a different usb cable but no luck. Would a midi conflict be a possible cause? Doesnt seem like pressing one of the buttons should affect sound quality but Im at a loss..

Also, it's got something to do with the mapping.

Ya.. It sure is.. Ive tried some further troubkeshooting and e problemmstill persists..

Im using noleftturns ig/hotcue mapping.. I gotta try a different mapping to see if problem occurs there too. It would be really bizarre if a mapping caused static tho right? Lol.. Im already at a loss as to what could be the cause.. Will try it out and report back. Im leaning towards something about midi note conflicts or latency being the cause.

Thnx

I have the exact same problem when using windows on my desktop. It doesn't happen in OSX on the same rig. So that kinda narrows the problem down to the OS. It didn't matter if I used my Audio 4 DJ or the onboard, didn't matter if I used 20ms buffer or 4.something ms buffer.

OSX has a completely different way of handling audio (way better). Way better than Windows' backwards way. The same goes for Midi and USB.

But really, like sidetrakd's signature says.. we're not psychic
So.. tell us a bit moarrrrr about your hardware!

I'd use linux if traktor didn't hate it. lol

Ha yeah! Lets not! I won't pick sides anyway! I use both mac and pc. I just never looked for a solution to the problem in the end

I used to get that on my windows laptop. Disabling the out-ports worked. Never had the problem when I switched to mac.

I'm now using Flashflooder's deckalized+IG mapping, and the beatmasher works way cleaner.
Maybe it's got something to do with 4 banks mode? I'll find another mapping with the beatmasher that's in 4 banks, and see if that's what's causing it.
