Kent's Formula to Create a DJ Name
First, leave out the DJ, it's cheesy.

Secondly, if your given name sounds OK and is not hard to spell or pronounce, use it. Nobody could take that away from you, not even big corporations like Sandvik.

If none of those work out, then....

* Take your first or last name and modify it a little bit. Let's say my fellow Americans have a hard time pronouncing and spelling Sandvik so if I wanted to change this, my new artist name would be Kent Sandstrom, Kent Sandway or something like that.

If still not sure, then:

* Collect over time a list of cool names and titles you like, do a slight modification and do an Internet search to make sure it's unique. The shorter the better, Photek versus "Maximum Phase Audio Sorcerer."

If that still does not work out, use http://www.bandnamemaker.com and something will bubble up.

After all this -- and you better be sure you like the name as you will use it for 10+ years -- build up your reputation and name by registering domains with this name, use it for your releases, DJ gigs, anything related to the music trade.

Ugh.
