Posted on: 13.12.2012 by Elvera Veliquette
I was believeing I could start a midi/dj club at my school. To do this I need to prove why it is useful, why is it educational, why should the school considere it and stuff like that.If you could help that would mean the world to me.Please tell me what should I do to convince them to make this dream come true.

We all make mistakes :P

Would the club be purely DJ focused? Would you be exploring production aspects as well? If I was to approach it from an educational perspective, I would look deeply into the construction of electronic music, and compare it to the composition for standard instruments.

For your standard composer, the texture of the instruments, vocal timbre etc are left to the performers. On the other hand, these decisions are made by the composers of Electronic Music (That is, their choice of VST's... every aspect of the sound is scrutinised and adjusted by the composer themselves).

You can look at the concept of the 'journey' many DJ's talk about. What the role of the DJ is and why they hold value over iTunes Shuffle.

What is your end goal for this club? What do you hope to achieve out of it. Would it be simple jam sessions? Or discussions on performing topics? Would you be looking at a Scratch oriented group?

first of all,Sorry for my grammar.English isnt my first language and recently i have been struggling a bit with it.
Something you should know, which is actually pretty awsome if you ask me, is that my school has a music production class.
The school already has 2 midi keyboads.I was believeing the club coul cover jamming, traktor and ableton djing, production , etc.
Another thing is were probably not going to go to deep into stuff at first glance. The members are going to grow with the club.
Thank you all so much for your help.I appreciate it alot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

please keep in mind that currently there is most likely no one at the school on staff that has enough knowledge to teach a full class about this on a daily basis so, someone is going to have to take courses themselves long enough to teach what they have learned..."learnt"...ARGGHH!

And its going to cost a bit for the school to get that person through his/her own classes

I bring this up because it might delay things in a way that you WONT be starting these classes in your school next august as you hoped

The real reason is so that the school doesn't have to hire a DJ for dances

Your school probably gives music lessons right? DJing gear is the instrument of the future.^^

Point out that DJing is a valued profession and there are whole schools set up (dubspot, point blank, etc) to push it forward.
