Denon DN X1600 Traktor Pro 2 setup tutorial anyone ?
Denon DN X1600 Traktor Pro 2 setup tutorial anyone ? Posted on: 02.03.2013 by Eleanore Hartmeyer Just got my new denon mixer, and am still trying to figure out how to set it up correctly to use with traktor pro 2.first off I installed the asio driver for denon. Then I went to setup the usb in utilitys. So far I understand that I want the mixer to be set on USB B ? And I have set in usbassign, USB 1/2 to Master and USB 3/4 to Master, even though it says to change it to cue monitor bus, but this is not available to be selected? USB channel 5/6 disabled, USB 7/8 disabled. At this stage I dont know what I am doing. In traktor audio device settings it says, the device is connected with asio denon but the output routing needs to be configured, I look in this section but there are no outputs to be selected. I dont want to do too much fiddling with this mixer incase I do something silly. If anyone could walk me through how they set up their Denon with TP2 I would be so happy. | |

Eleanore Hartmeyer 09.03.2013 | thanks Jester, yo uwont believe it when I was believeign about that level knob at work, when I came back there I turned it up, problem solved, im sucha n00b haha how embarrassing thanks for your patience with me man and again great vid Thanks Lineypirate did that figured that out by accident earlier too when I hadnt the mixer plugged in via USB. Thanks lads had a great sesh there of some old school trance haha lovely mixer with the X1 |
Lora Vandewark 09.03.2013 | AFAIK, you can only change the sampling rate of the X-1600 when it's in USB 'A' mode, i.e. not connected to Traktor. To change it (as mentioned before): - Ensure your mixer is not connected to your computer (or select USB A mode). - Press "Utility", then scroll to "System" with the effects dial. - "FS 96" should be displayed, you can then select which sampling rate you want. I found that using the 96kHz on the X-1600 mode always adds pops, clicks and instability in Traktor (on a 16GB, SSD 2011 MBP), so I personally use the 48kHz option. I'm not sure if it matters, but I make sure the sampling rate in Traktor's preferences are set the same as the X-1600 too. I'm no audio expert but I believe it's so Traktor isn't resampling your audio to a higher quality from the X-1600 which adds latency, or vice versa. Then adjust the latency slider to suit. (The latency slider on my MBP is set to 192). With these settings, I'm able to use the X-1600's DVS features on two channels (decks A / B) and two CDJ's controlling the other two decks with the audio routed to the other two channels on the mixer with no glitches. Hope this helps! |

What could be wrong ? Im pretty sure I want to be using the mixers EQs rather than traktors like yourself. Damn this mixer hahaha When it works It will be unreal im sure :P |
Latoria Kavulich 09.03.2013 | best bang for your buck by a long shot. |
09.03.2013 | How is this mixer, BTW? Just saw a used one yesterday at Guitar Center for $349. |
Latoria Kavulich 09.03.2013 | if you mix internally set one channel as the master and have the others on midi mode. well in my video i am mixing externally through the software (so my x1's basically act as cdjs), but if i had a cdj plugged in it would work without changing anything. ya if you use the internal mode you would have to map the vu meters unfortunately. basically if you want to use traktor's eq, use internal mode, if you want to use the mixers eq, set it up how i have it. p.s i don't use the denon's soundcard, i use the audio 6 as i have a lot of glitches etc. |
Eleanore Hartmeyer 08.03.2013 | Yea I tried that and it said cant select, odd isnt it, getting loads of drop outs due to it :/ Also I was just confused and if you could clarify, when you went about setting up the mixer for external use did that mean it would only work if you had decks or cdjs plugged in ? Or can Traktor send the audio through usb to the mixer and use externally ? If so that means when I mix internally I must use the master setting correct ? Also my VU meters dont work on the channels, im guessing I have to map these too yes ? Sorry for the late reply, was away from the mixer for a week. |
Latoria Kavulich 04.03.2013 | change usb 1/2 to channel 1 and usb 3/4 to channel 2. |
Latoria Kavulich 04.03.2013 | to change the sample rate on the mixer, go into SYSTEM in the utility, you can also check the firmware version and whether it is set to pc or mac. |
Eleanore Hartmeyer 03.03.2013 | I can get it to play sound when I set the usb assign to the master though. |
Eleanore Hartmeyer 03.03.2013 | thanks a mill for all the help jester, great vid Still have one problem, no sound is coming through my speakers which are connected via rca to 1/4" into my amp, traktor is showing sound is present in the gain though. My outputs are set on external and matched to each channel. Also I cannot change the sample rate, it is greyed out on 96000Khz, i wish to change it to 44.1, but when i go to the asio control panel I have no choice in selecting 44.1. Any Ideas ? Sorry for being a bother. |
Latoria Kavulich 02.03.2013 | hope this helps a bit. any more questions hit me up. |
Latoria Kavulich 02.03.2013 | yes if you use the setup wizard in traktor it sets up the default mapping. vid uploading now. easy to find if something is midi mappable, if the midi light comes on in the display when you move something, you can map it. |
Kyra Ramquist 02.03.2013 | I'm also not sure what they're talking about, Preferences > Setup Wizard > Yes > Denon > DN-X1600 > Next > Finish should be enough no? I don't own a 1600, but it's a certified mixer after all. The manual has a full list of what's MIDI mappable. |
Eleanore Hartmeyer 02.03.2013 | Followed your tutorial mate, great stuff, turns out I was already at firmware 2000, probably because my mixer was new enough from the factory. Eagerly awaiting your next vid One question regarding the mapping, I thought the mixer was plug and play, meaning would be already mapped ? Seems not to be from what yee guys have been saying. Would you be up for haring your mapping on DJTT ? Wonder can you map anything to utilise the contour and other knobs to emulate what they say they do ? |
Latoria Kavulich 02.03.2013 | better do do it your self i believe. i have the midi strip set up for browsing and loading tracks, and thats about it at this stage. |
Antonetta Wikel 02.03.2013 | I've actually been looking to buy either this mixer or the 1700. Jester, is there a midi mapping that come with it for Traktor or did you have to map it all yourself? |
Latoria Kavulich 02.03.2013 | will work on the setup video after lunch. i've been meaning to do one for 6 months |
Latoria Kavulich 02.03.2013 | ok grab this https://dl.dropbox.com/u/55238820/DNX1600.rar - find the file "X1600FW.BIN" - put that file on a USB stick, but not in a sub folder - plug the stick into USB A on the mixer (mixer must be OFF) - Hold "MIC 2" & "DUCKING" together with the mixer still off - Turn on the mixer, while still holding those buttons - follow the onscreen prompts, the current firmware is 2000 you may have 1010 depending. this vid may help from a bout halfway through. |
Eleanore Hartmeyer 02.03.2013 | cool cool thanks man |
Latoria Kavulich 02.03.2013 | hold on a bit. i'll upload the firmware for you and walk you through it. |

Latoria Kavulich 02.03.2013 | did you do the firmware update 2000sys yet? |
Latoria Kavulich 02.03.2013 | i'll do a video for you later mate. can be a bit confusing at first. |
