Need help with choosing a laptop for DJing
Posted on: 16.03.2013 by Alesia Tomcho
Hi there.
Im currently looking for a cheap laptop that will let me dj with ableton with glitching and shuttering.
The big plan is to save money for macbook pro that will also replace my desktop, but currently i dont have enough money for this and im having some shows in 3 weeks.

My setup on ableton includes two audio tracks which contains the tracks im about to use and one more audio track for some samples.
on the master i got some audio effects that i use one in a while.
Not something to heavy.

Now, i found two laptop which seems very nice but i got a little dilemma.
Will a B970 Proccessor handle the job or its should i add about 70$ for an I3-2730m ?

Thanks in advance.
Parkinson.

Actually he said he eventually would like a Macbook, but cant afford it yet and has a show in a few weeks. Which says "What budget PC laptop will be capable of running xyz software for now". Thats what it says to me anyhow ?

There's probably a significant price difference between the B970 and i3 which made the OP make his choice.

What happened to DJTT that people come here to ask which CPU they need..? I thought Google was used for these basic questions..
In All honestly if you google DJ+Laptop+Suggestions one of the sites that shows up in the google search is DJTT, so can understand people post here expecting replies seeing as community search is not in the most intuitive area of the menu (I'll say no more on that ).

Thanks in advance for your help guys ! i hope it will handle the job well.
On reading the specs the b970 looks to be around the same as the Core2Duo,(Essentially a Celeron) which is pretty slow these days ... it would certainly make more sense to go for an i3 or i5 if the money allows it to futureproof yourself a little, especially if you are running windows.

Also even a core2duo will handle the Job (at least a mac one will)

Typed from my 4 year old 13' Macbook pro 2.4ghz/8gb/Dual Hard Drive running Ableton with 400 Full length Tracks loaded into my grid and 3-8 tracks and samples playing at any given a time + effects.

Honestly I'd go for a Second Hand i5 Macbook 10/11 months old ($700 maybe?) that you can get Applecare for.

Seach function is your friend.

Is a decent alternative for a mac since it can stand a decent workload. At least for some time until you save for a Mac if you're settled on getting one.
The Envy is more than double the price of the G580.

Please, just tell me if there is a big difference between the B970 and the I3.

What's your price range?
Im from israel and the prices here are different so the price range is pretty much irrelevant.
Also, not every laptop model is sold here..

Im planning on buying the Lenovo G580.

Basic search on google shows in the first three hits that the i3-2370M pwns the B970 in every way.
And still OP decides to go with the lesser CPU.
