I stated it because he needs minimal latency. Check out his cube setup and you'll see that he relies on quite a lot more than 2 cdjs and a mixer, so even cue out doesn't help much in that aspect. He needs to know where his gear is. I read it in some interview i don't remember where.

Also, for those interested, this is the inside of the head:

They probably make sure visibility is quite clear before they choose to use the mask..

Sometimes I wear a Lego head mask when I play at the Lego themed parties my friends and I throw. The mask has thin fabric over the eyes and mouth but it's still kinda hard to see out of it; you can, but it's difficult.

Daft Punk actually are undead mayan gods and have spirits that telepathically tell them where their gear is.

Daft Punk's helmets have fairly translucent visors in them (there's a picture of Guy-Man's face showing through in some Alive 2007 photos).

As has been already mentioned, the mau5 has a camera and video goggles for his LED head. The other heads all have a perforated metal grille or a see through fabric covering the mouth. Having made one of the metal grille variety, I can say visibility is surprisingly good, even in the dark. LEDs on controllers tend to help quite a bit, though.

The Beetroots masks are also a translucent fabric, similar to the mouths of the older mau5 heads/zentai suits.

The Cazzette heads have a see through piece of plastic over the eyes, I believe.

And finally, Danger has an all plastic mask with tiny pinholes cut in it.

Lot's of ways to see out of those things!

The first two are producers as well, its how they market their product.

Paladin 5.1 (or Paladin 7.1.300beta or whatever he goes by now) used cams. Then he'd broadcast the video feed out to monitors for people to watch.....themselves.

pretty overdone if you ask me.

The Mau5 *hail* rocks a small webcam and video goggles on his.
