Which should I get first?
Which should I get first? Posted on: 09.05.2013 by Dylan Kockler I'm really gonna try to make a long story shortI'll be getting Ableton Live 9 Standard and plan to be purchasing both the Maschine Mk2 and the Novation Launchkeys 49 My question to you is which should I buy first? The Maschine or the Launchkeys? Also I dont have any prior piano skills. Should I get the 49 key or a 25 key midi keyboard? | |

If you've never used Ableton before, you wont have an idea of what kind of controller you will want. You may believe you know what you want, but you wont know till you're atleast somewhat familiar with it. If you really want some keys to play some chords/melodies/drums whatever, just get something basic in the meantime like an Akai LPK25 or something |

Iraida Bonaventure 09.05.2013 | Why would you buy a DAW, that for the most part takes years to master and then immediately purchase a sampler/sequencer combo that while not nearly as deep as the DAW would still take some time to master. Are you good at learning things 2 different things at the same time? Anything that Maschine can do, Ableton can do. If you already have Ableton, I would just spend the next few months learning it with just a mouse and keyboard and that way you'll have a better idea of what kind of controller you need. But that's probably not the answer you're looking for eh? |

Dylan Kockler 09.05.2013 | Alright I believe people misunderstood I'm getting Ableton Live 9 before all of these things but what should I get after that between the Novation Launchkeys 49 and the Maschine Mk2 The one I dont choose to get right away I will get about a month later Push is on backorder for 12-16 weeks so....no |
Gaynell Rydberg 09.05.2013 | Get the Push... It'll cover the Maschine and Launchkey. |
Collen Ladanyi 09.05.2013 | You can us launchkey with maschine's software. If you're getting all of those eventually, I would start with maschine. You can use maschine's hardware with ableton too. |
Collen Ladanyi 09.05.2013 | Launchkey would be useless if you don't have ableton yet. |
Emelina Chillson 09.05.2013 | Launchkeys bruv. This way you can take time to learn more about getting in touch with your music. |
Eleanore Hartmeyer 09.05.2013 | maschine |
Collen Ladanyi 09.05.2013 | Maschine all the way. |
Emelina Paglia 09.05.2013 | Get the Launchkeys 49 first. I have a 32 key, and it's big enough. I'm not a piano player either, but 25 seems a bit too small. If you are planning to carry it around then get the 25 key if not... go with the 49. Which ever you get it doesn't matter, just preference and for convenience. |
Jerica Salava 09.05.2013 | Get the Push |

You can play drums and piano on it and it seems like it's more friendly to ableton starters. 25 keys is ok, but the 45 will last longer in the future. You may want to develop some certain piano skills and then it's always good to have the opportunity to play wide. |
Hope Frisa 09.05.2013 | Why not go for the launchpad instead of the launchkey? It's cheaper, it can be used to play traditionally once you get your head around the key locations and patterns, and it can easily act as a basic mixer and clip trigger-er. |
