Adding Mic Input to Mixer?
Posted on: 14.05.2013 by Migdalia Donovan
Hi!

Looking to get the Mackie Onyx 820i mixer (http://www.mackie.com/products/onyx820i/) but may at some point need 4 Mic XLR inputs.

Is there an adapter or anything that can be purchased to add a mic input? If so will it impede quality?

Thanks!

As makar1 said get a slightly bigger mixer or you could get a preamp that has 1/4in outs to go into the 5th channel. In the long run it'll be cheaper to get a mixer with more preamps on board.

Depends on the application. If you had two mics going into one channel you may have issues with signal gain. With that mixer you can use channels 5 or 7 (in mono) you would just need to supply your own preamp and come out it with a 1/4" cable.

You would need to add a mic preamp as well, you can't just plug in a mic in a line input, even if the connector is right
