How do people like Richie Hawtin mix minimal techno house? Is it through Ableton Live?

Not really. He does some looping but his sets are by no means composed of mostly loops.

Any time threads/posts come up about richie hawtin's DJ style I feel like there are always a lot of misconceptions and for some reason people believe he always loops and uses 3-4 decks plus maschine way more than he actually does.

He does do a good bit of relatively standard 2 deck mixing which accounts for quite a bit of his sets.

Yeah indeed, but that was already given. In this video you see the complete set up. You can also see a lot of loops going, and that he is using 2 X1's. (And Maschine of course)

btw, I was there and it was great!

From sound of it I'm pretty sure Richie is using that one mate.

Closest I could get is using Tape delay in traktor:

I believe so too. His delays don't sound like the ones available in Traktor

Usually either on traktor or CDJs. You can mix it on whatever DJ software/format you like.

Usually on a mixer?

I believe Hawtin uses Traktor / Xone 92 / Ableton / Maschine / Other shit.

Depends on how far you want to take it... generally Traktor will be decent enough dj software. Whether you want to add daw effects, loops and samples from ableton, or live sounds etc... is upto you
