Native Instruments Maschine encoder pot 0B20K

I know there have been multiple issues with the maschine and encoders going bad BUT has anyone found an equivalent one that will work as a replacement without having to send the unit in to NI?

I already soldered it and cleaned pot and tried it out...it was better but not 100% responsive like it should be. When I got the encoder apart to clean one of the teeth was already bent...once they are bent it is near impossible to bend it back exactly the way it was

after some more testing I decided to just take the bad pot out altogether and look for a replacement.....well, NO LUCK... the pot has 4 lines on bottom with 2 support lines on the side...

This is not my picture or unit but looks the same except green instead of red..same pot part number

I wasn't sure if this pot would work from livid instruments

I'm pretty sure one of the 4 lines is for support only, so i'm hoping it will work.

If anyone has found something that does work LET ME KNOW

I bought 2nd hand on eBay so ill have to pay. Plus, I already desoldered pot... Service request filed... Just waiting on RMA and "further" instructions.

On a good note its better the ranges $500 for their repair. Only difference is rane will sale u parts super cheap

Have you actually taken it apart though? Because that's definitely a warranty voidage.

DjLiquitATL: If you can get me measurements of everything on the encoder I can look for it later. Dimensions of base, length of shaft, etc.
I know how to solder and use a multi-meter...that's about as technical as I get...if this was a 1200 or analog mixer i'd be all over it...I've changed multiple bad pots on DJ mixers BUT never a encoder and never something that I have this much trouble locating the part for

i'll try to post specs in the morning...BUT i'm pretty sure its a 15mm shaft

I haven't had that luck. I've sent them the order form, but I never get an RMA number and whatnot :|

nope, got RA yesterday. Got to fill out service paperwork, pay, and send it to NI for repair. $138.00

as far as NI's service...it is outstanding. Its no where near as bad as what I have read on this community in the past. Reply same day, RA a day or so later...we will see how long it takes them to fix the unit

Yep. You get your maschine figured out yet?

I have a lot more free time now.

You have to have a brand new desoldered tip to get most the solder off then touch solder the piece off... Their solder is a higher temp solder... Pain in ass to desolder... Pretty sure that is on purpose.

Yea, just filled out a service request form for one of my S4s. It's about 160 for fader repair. I honestly don't know why it costs so much. It doesn't take more than an hour to desolder and solder the new one back in.

A complete replacement for the S4 is 375 I believe.

My S2 board is toast. There's absolutely no way I can removed these pins. I have no clue why they're stuck in the PCB.

Ack. If you send me the dimensions I"ll hunt it down for you!

Or you can mail it to me if you don't have calipers.

Because it costs <$200 to build an S4 from scratch

Yea. The datasheet will show you how to measure everything properly.

You just need a pair of calipers.

I really don't understand why NI is so anal about not selling parts. They already have a sticker over a screw for tamper evidence..

Look at the spec sheet I linked on the previous page; it shows the proper way to measure the length of the shaft.

Yes, the function is different but the housing is almost identical. There don't seem to be any matching encoders on the Alps website though.

It looks almost identical in design to the pots used on the X1/S4, but I couldn't find an endless one that they have on Maschine.

wonder if this would work???

seems like I could cut the 3 pins I do not need that power the LED and replace the shaft with the original

I may just break down and send the bitch in to NI, they better give me a new f'in board for $150

Searching on my phone didnt yield anything but if you want an answer you should ask in the Music Tech DIY section of muffwiggler.com

Certain types of pots amd encoders are pretty much impossible to get in small quantities unfortunately though. Im trying to find some Bourns 6mm panel mount d shaft pots but they just arent sold in hobbyist quantities.
Gaynell Rydberg

Tell me about it. I've been hunting down a fader, and I spent about a week looking everywhere. Minimum order of 308 everywhere until I started emailing random people on eBay lol.
Federico Vilas
11.05.2013
yeah, it would be much easier if NI could just sell the damn part

The S2 encoders are different. 5 pins total.

can u post a link to what you found for your S2...
Gaynell Rydberg

Have you searched digikey or mouser?

I have replacement encoders and pots for my S2, but I haven't tried them yet.

You need a linear 20k ohm encoder.
