XDJ-R1 "Clone"
Posted on: 02.06.2013 by Doreen Schurle
I use the term "clone" in quotes because this came out two years ago, and doesn't have CD drives or wireless, but it's pretty funny nonetheless.

The thing I don't get is, how the hell did nobody notice this 2 years ago? :P

EDIT: DVS-capable too, as it's a 4-in/4-out with support for phono input from TTs as well as line level sources. And TWO USB ports!

In most cases, the Pioneer product has the same parts in it that other gear in that price range has. Pioneer buys the same electronics components as everyone else. Sometimes you'll have a component that's built to a higher quality (like Pioneer CD mechs for example), but that's rarely actually true.

So true... it's so friggin hard to get Americans to realize that good quality stuff can come out of China if the companies putting in the orders are willing to actually pay for high QC and specs.

For once i believe mcd's reloop knowledge might come in handy here.. I'm going to stay my ground until he disproves me, i don't believe reloops are OEM.

Why don't you just agree that reloop has good gear? :P

i don't believe reloops are OEM.
Of course they're OEM. Reloop doesn't have their own factory. A lot of Reloop gear is made at Hanpin.

BTW, there is nothing wrong with that. Most of the products we buy are made at places like Hanpin and not at the company whose logo is plastered on the case. Also, Hanpin can make exceptional gear. As with most OEM/ODMs, it's up to how good your product specification is and how well everything is managed.

I just can't understand why do you say the new XDJ-R1 is a clone of that or vice-versa.

They are completely different units. If you say that it's because they support midi, cd's, usb's, etc, well...

then you can also say a Fiat 500 is a clone of a Ferrari 458 Italia. They both have 4 wheels, a steering wheel, an engine...

I don't get it?

yep there hanpin, along with older stanton and dj-tech, zomo et. al... it's all about money.. reloop pay more so get better quality components.. Personally I like reloop! I have had a DJ3, DJ2 and contour IE.. I just though MDC worked for their marketing team.. Now I'm not so sure...

What does the screen being similar have to do with anything?

They aren't the same controller.

The Stanton looks like it has a full line of text more than the Reloop.

This is a product by a DJ gear OEM called Hanpin. These companies have purchased and released the model with minimal changes. Pretty sure you could also find it under the Akiyama and Voxoa brands as well.

The VFD displays give it away. They've been using that display for years. Look at the Radius line of CD players for instance. Still, Hanpin generally makes good products, so that's not a knock. Just wanted to explain why several companies have the same looking product.

I believe that's a reference to the fact that it's kinda hybrid midi/analog, where the mixer section is analog (external mixing) even when using Traktor/VDJ, rather than MIDI.

DDJTips didn't actually bash it TOO hard: http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2011/12...sadeck-review/

Basically, it's a kinda "meh" controller, where it fills a particularly niche (specifically, the mobile DJs who might need to mix off a bunch of different sources) but doesn't excel in any one particularly category. They did say it was pretty sturdy though, all-metal construction which is always a good thing.

Citronic rebadged it as well haha.

Looks like American Audio rebadged it as the "Versadeck" around the same time as well:
