Reply to Static coming from Mackie th15a

I just got two mackie th15A speakers and I am running the sound directly from the back of my s2 into the speakers and there is just so much static, even when the speaker isn't plugged into my s2. Is this normal? Do I have a bad speaker or can I easily fix this with the eq knobs on the back? Does the static go away when the music is really loud? Thanks!!!!
