upgrading traktor pro to 2...
Posted on: 11.07.2013 by Margie Pavell
So I bought a traktor 2 key from a fellow community member. He said it came with is Z2 and that he didn't need it. I installed traktor 2 and tried to activate it and was told that I didnt have the appropriate base product to upgrade. Is this activation code tied to the Z2?

unless I did something else wrong...

There should be an upgrade path but I can't seem to find it. NI is only showing me the full $89 version. Maybe if you log into your NI account it will show you the upgrade options.

Good luck. Hopefully it was an honest mistake and he didn't know you couldn't install it.

The only thing that required the controller was the scratch upgrade for the S4.

The old version of Traktor is not the same as Traktor Scratch 2. They will register as two different keys. You need to install the demo of Traktor Pro 2 and then input the CD key for Traktor Scratch.
Not sure how that worked out for you. There's been multiple articles around the nets and posts on this community about it. My F1 Traktor key could only be used if I had the F1 registered. If the keys were transferable there's nothing to stop you from buying up Audio 2's and flipping the Traktor key and sound card at a profit. Small profit but still. My guess would be that before they started bundling all their hardware with the software they had a short time when they were giving away Traktor 2 with the X1 and that might not have been tied to the controller yet. Or was this a recent X1 purchase?

Edit: slow poster didn't see the posts above.

Absolutely 100% correct.

It is CLEARLY stated in the EULA that the seller agreed to that he bought a Hardware/Software Bundle and that it is not permitted to sell one without the other.

The "Base Product" is any product bought with or prior to the a product that is installed alongside or after the original product. In this case the Z2 is the "Base Product" as the seller bought the Z2 and that came with a a complimentary copy of Traktor (this is why people need to get the idea that the software IS FREE into their heads).

You should seek a refund from the seller. He is in breach of the EULA and if reported could have his account suspended thus rendering all his NI products unregistered/deactivated and without support.

I'm sure the seller will co-operate.

Yeah the upgrade versions are older ones and you would need the serial for the item that was originally upgraded as well (ie traktor le)

I have a few licenses on my account but can't do anything cos they're all tied to controllers otherwise I would give you one bud.

There is no upgrade. You have to buy the full version.

IIRC the X1 originally came with Traktor LE 2. The X1 did not need registering as this was before there was a hardware registration process.

You could upgrade to Traktor Pro with LE as LE was the "base product" not the X1.

Things changed when hardware registration was introduced. This is how I recall it.

I had the EXACT same thing happen to me. Some guy bought a Z2 but he didnt need the traktor license so he sold the key to me. Just like yours it didnt work so I called NI and they said that the only way I could use the software is if I used it with the Z2. They are paired software with hardware. In other words, get a refund.
