Older Macbook trying to run traktor pro 2.6.2
Older Macbook trying to run traktor pro 2.6.2 Posted on: 07.08.2013 by Consuelo Schubert So my sister gave me her old MacBook. Its the model that is in the white case. I tried to install traktor and its saying it requires snow leopard. I am running 10.6.8 and it will not take traktor. I tried to update the OS and its saying my processor will not take it. It is currently running an 1.83 Ghz Intel Core Duo. Under memory is says 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. Is it possible to have traktor run on this labtop or do I have a large paper weight? Thanks in advance for your help | |

Consuelo Schubert 08.08.2013 | I just finished with the traktor install. Works perfect. Now I just have to get used to the smaller screen lol. Thanks again for all your help guys!! |

Consuelo Schubert 08.08.2013 | So I contacted NI and they sent me an installer for 2.6.0 so lets see what happens. I will keep you guys updated!! |

Alphonso Deitchman 09.08.2013 | I don't see how spending $100+ for Windows is a viable solution when you can use an older version, or copy over a newer version if you use the new hardware. Isn't the new X1 fully MIDI mappable anyway? |

Windows isn't any better when it comes to supporting the latest Traktor version, given that Vista and XP are no longer supported. Also many users have complained about significant increases in CPU usage with the more recent versions so it makes more sense to use an older version. If you've just been handed down an old Mac, chances are a newer model isn't too far out of reach. |
Doreen Schurle 08.08.2013 | Both of you are COMPLETELY missing the point here. To use an F1, you need Traktor 2.5. To use a Z1, you need 2.6.1; to use an X1 Mk2, you need 2.6.3. For people that have new hardware an older (unsupported on Lion macs), then installing Windows is pretty much their only solution, unless they've got access to a newer machine they can copy the install over from. |

It doesn't REQUIRE it on Windows;
I just don't see the point in installing windows just to "maybe" allow Basic Traktor playback, keylock "might" work on low CPU mode but will sound like crap, Most FX will chug, remix decks would be a no-no. At least with the older version (1.x) you will be able to use everything thats available without any slowdown.
However, considering how there are people out there who run it on Atom netbooks
Either ask for an old installer from NI

Alphonso Deitchman 08.08.2013 | Windows isn't going to help performance in any way so I don't see why you'd go to the trouble of installing it. At least if you stick with OSX you can have native low latency audio with the onboard sound card. Either ask for an old installer from NI, or copypaste the newer application file from another computer and see how it runs. |

I didn't have issues with my 2006 Macbook Pro running 10.6.8 and Traktor 2.6.1 IIRC, so I don't know what's going on exactly.
Macbook = Core Duo
To be honest, I believe you guys' best bet would be to install Windows via Bootcamp and just use the Windows version of Traktor.
I reckon older version of Traktor is probably the only way out (Traktor Pro 1.2 was stable and fast on my old core duo). |
Doreen Schurle 08.08.2013 | Just been doing some research; it's possible to run Lion DP1 or Mountain Lion final on unsupported Macs, but it requires some fudging around. To be honest, I believe you guys' best bet would be to install Windows via Bootcamp and just use the Windows version of Traktor. |
Oretha Afful 08.08.2013 | damn I didn't even believe of this. I have an older macbook like this too. Just bought the new X1 and have been using it on my Imac which is newer and been having no problems. But now I'm believeing it's not gonna work with my macbook. so won't be able to use it at gigs. Obviously not gonna take the Imac to gigs lol. |
Consuelo Schubert 08.08.2013 | When I tried to upgrade to 10.6.8 it said my processor was not adequate for it and to run traktor 2 you have to have snow leopard |
Cori Ozanich 08.08.2013 | Guys, 10.6.8 is Snow Leopard. I didn't have issues with my 2006 Macbook Pro running 10.6.8 and Traktor 2.6.1 IIRC, so I don't know what's going on exactly. Try to get a hold of Traktor (Scratch) Pro 1 if you can. |
Trula Willadsen 07.08.2013 | Upgrade to 4 GB ram (20 bucks if you do it yourself) and find a copy of traktor 2.6.0 and upgrade to Snow Leopard. Should run fine |
Alphonso Deitchman 07.08.2013 | Contact NI support and they should provide you with an older installer, provided that you own Traktor already and have registered your serial. |
Consuelo Schubert 07.08.2013 | Where can I find one of the older versions of traktor? |

Fred Offill 07.08.2013 | Having had a macbook (black 2.0ghz Core Duo) I found that although I could ''run'' traktor scratch pro 2, it wasn't perfect. With a big load it did have a few dropouts. I had to increase the latency to a point where it didn't feel right when using timecode. I reverted back to traktor scratch pro and it ran perfectly fine. Might not have all the new features but it's still a solid piece of software. To run 2.6.2, you need os x 10.7 lion. It will not work with snow leopard. |
