DJing for 13 year old girls
DJing for 13 year old girls Posted on: 05.06.2013 by Danae Dumler Yeah I'm serious; I agreed to DJ a bat mitzvah. I've been told that the girl is into "all that techno stuff that's popular now"; I assume they didn't mean Seth Troxler or DVS1.... Honestly short of Harlem Shake and Gangnam Style I really haven't paid much attention to top 40 dance music in several years. I'm sure I have enough stuff to keep people happy but I don't want to be caught empty-handed when it comes to requests. Of course you can never predict what people will request but what's the easiest way to make sure I have the goods that 13-year old girls will be most likely to ask for? Any essential compilations for pure popular stuff that I should look into? Or suggestions of stuff I should not miss? | |

Isela Retano 12.08.2013 | Dont forget the "classic" |
Leonore Moradel 12.08.2013 |
Just drop This bro, its my own personal mix, what i do is get acapellas, or mashups or bootlegs of the top songs on the radio, and just make it my own. |
Beulah Heintze 10.08.2013 | If you're going into the EDM genre, Guetta, Avicii, and SHM are pretty much the ones I would stick too. Everything else, top 40 and teeny pop stuff... |
Trula Willadsen 07.08.2013 | http://www.billboard.com/charts/kids-albums Loads of Katy Perry, Nicky Minaj, One Direction, Justin Bieber and that kind of stuff. All clean versions though! Good luck! |
Yong Aptekar 07.08.2013 | Oh, and you are going to want earplugs to go under your headphones. When a group of girls hears "their" song, you will understand. |

Irmgard Sandness 07.08.2013 | I played at my niece's 9th birthday party a few months ago. I just looked at the Billboard charts for the past couple of months and grabbed a bunch of that stuff.. I snuck in a few classics too, like One More Time, etc. It worked out great, and it was actually a lot of fun. |

Sonja Roybal 05.08.2013 | I would seriously need at least $1500 to play a gig like that. It sounds brutal. Good luck. |
Trista Karle 05.08.2013 | Why not just charge 5$ a request Gould curb most request unless they are drunk 13yo On a more serious note check out DMC I use it almost exclusively for chart stuff and although North Americans have different taste ten across the pond it's pretty good. Also they have some like 50 to 100 disc collections that will get you right on par... |
Hellen Mindrup 05.08.2013 | Well I just had to do one of these on Saturday and let me tell you, it was just brutal. I mean it was miserable. These kids want to hear nothing but what's on the radio, and nothing more. When they say techno, they literally mean David Guetta and Flo Rida. Be prepared. |
Danae Dumler 05.08.2013 | Bumping this thread as the party is in a couple weeks ... in case there are any last minute suggestions (or jokes) that I better not miss Thanks for all the tips so far, as well as the comedy! |

Btw i find that most Dj's will hide their sources of music. It's been like this since the beginning like when turntablist cover the record labels. No one's really gonna share their "FIYAAA" tracks haha good luck |
Ethel Feigum 06.06.2013 | Calvin Harris, Rhianna, Guetta (little girls love Titanium), Selena Gomez, will.i.am, Britney, One Direction, the Wanted, that Pitbull song with Afrojack... This is what my 11 year old listens to. I tried to teach her better... |
Rochel Papillion 06.06.2013 | lolol this thread is gold |
Samuel Stamaria 05.06.2013 | Just play Umek, and Richie Hawtin. I hear all the little 13 year old girls are into twerking to techno. Pro tip; stare only at your laptop to avoid creeper stares from the mother, but feel free to stare at the mothers.. |
Rena Estabrook 05.06.2013 | Ariana Grande is full of win. |
Gaynell Rydberg 05.06.2013 | Just play top 40. You're gonna have to have Avicii, SHM, Alesso, etc. Kinda weird how I'm 20, but I don't believe I would be able to guess their songs of choice. edit: Porter Language and Zedd's Spectrum and Clarity are MUST |
Augustine Mitzen 05.06.2013 | this on repeat |
Lillia Datson 05.06.2013 | I provided my sound system and some lasers and lights for a mate of mines 10yr olds birthday party a few weeks ago. 1 direction, Britney spears, bruno mars and all the associated wank was the order of the day. He also played the Auto tuned remix of charles ramsey giving an interview. I shit you not! The beautiful innocence of a child had no idea what it was, other than the fact it sounded fun. Also climbing tree's makes you a boss to kids, especially if you can get to the fifth branch. |

Honestly quite a bit of the cheesier vocal stuff that gets into the beatport top 100 sounds like it would go over well with middle schoolers. Find a way to get a wifi connection or be able to tether your phone maybe? |
Hipolito Scionti 05.06.2013 | If you can have wifi and itunes to hand you should be able to download and play most requests |

Klara Kinnebrew 05.06.2013 | Just remember, 13 will get ya 20.... |
Darlene Strohbeck 05.06.2013 | It's hard to say what the "right" music is. I've been doing mobile DJ'ing for 8 years of my 14 year career and for at least the first 4 years, I worked diligently to build up my library to have 9 out of 10 requests that people ask for. The really difficult thing is that shows like "Glee" have re-popularized old songs like "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond, so getting the last few decades may not cut it. Here's a funny anecdote: I DJ'd for a university graduation recently and a girl asked me for "oldies", when I asked what she considered "oldies" she said Backstreet Boys lol. If you were in Toronto I'd share my entire library with you. I'd be willing to send you an excel spreadsheet of my playlist if that'll help. I've already done that for a few people here. |
Jenna Skeem 05.06.2013 | just make sure you've got the top 40 for the oast couple of months and you'll be good |
