What soundcard do I need?
Posted on: 25.08.2013 by Bernard Pulizzi
Hello all, I am converting from a setup of two CDJ 350s and a DJM 400 to a digital setup consisting of my DJM 400 and a Traktor X1 as transport.

My question is: What soundcard would I need for this setup?

I thought at first that I would need just an Audio 2, but I may be mistaken?

p.s On a side note, will I need a soundcard to plug just my laptop into two active monitors for production, or can I just use a split cable for that?

Thanks

my aim is to upgrade further to four decks using two X1s and a 4 channel external mixer - I feel slightly inhibited by the cdj 350s - if they were CDJ 900s or above I would be much happier, but I don't have that kind of money - I don't like that the 350s displays are so small, I would like to incorporate a laptop even if purely for browsing my library, not to mention quantized looping which I CAN'T WAIT to use (being a house/techno dj I need longer transitions!).

Having said the above, I'm now posing the question of what I would need to simply incorporate Traktor into my DJM 400 aand CDJ 350 setup - would I be able to use quantized loops if I were to connect a laptop?

Yeah you could if you run a cable from your record out on the mixer to a 3.5mm into your jack on your computer

audio2dj will work just fine in this case ... just set channel A for Deck A and Channel B for Deck B and set it to mix externally.

Yes, you can connect your 350s to Traktor and use them as MIDI controllers as well as your sound card. No other purchases necessary but you might want to add an X1 for more control.

An Audio 4 or 10, run cdj's into the ins on the sound card, then run the outs of it into the mixer channels... Then you'd need to run a usb into the soundcard from your computer in order for your software to recognize the music and to push it though your mixer.

When it comes to the monitors at this point, just plug them into your mixer and they'll work normally.
