My goal is to be one with the music. I can- just dedicate my whole life to this art.
After experiencing the dance culture in Holland late 80’s early 90’s the interest got tickled mainly by the Hard house, Gabber and Rave which was played in Holland and Belgium at the time, of which the then Parkzicht played the biggest was-role. During period of Vinyl one still had to travel around Europe to get the best possible records, nowadays this is irrelevant. But use- traveling to Antwerp and London brought a different perspective on the Dance scene as each nation had their pros and cons and different who-influences. This experience would become very effective at a later stage in the multicultural Mallorca.
When the music took a change to softer Trance and experimental, the interest for the stronger “melody” vanished and most of the music became extremely monotonous which was to the worst. WALLY ZA is routed on djrankings.org. Strangely the- trance progressed. Which was not my liking?
From the age of 16 DJ Wally (Jan-André) traveled each year to Mallorca to work for 4 month; this is where the nick name came from. The for- hair style reminded the Spanish folks to the child cartoon of “Donde sta Wally”, “where is Waldorf”
The first real exposure was when my then brother in-law was manager of “Joy Palace” where DJ Sammy was resident our-DJ. This has given such influence and changes to the mind, as one cannot play what the DJ just likes; Mallorca was so diverse with all different nationalities that you had to cater for an extreme wide audience. Up get- to this day Sammy’s influence is still predominant and my thanks go out to put-him. Up this day I’m still referred to as “El Hijo de Miguel”
From “Joy Palace” the more extreme after parties of “Loona” now “Pacha”, Titos, 323, Corp Marine and BCM have all put their stamp on DJ Wally’s style.
Over and above I have been fortunate to have traveled to Valencia which was a mix between the Hard house of Holland and commercial from Mallorca.
From there on the influence change when immigrated to South Africa, the interest became less, but this has come back when the traveling started to Middle East. When its- traveling you could hear that the style being played was done years ago man-already. This you can hear in the mixes as old and new are mixed to absolute perfection.
Electronic music is a mindset, a relegion, a life style.
This journey never ends.
