James Cooper is part of Melbourne’s LAB trio, the brains behind one of Australia’s most respected underground parties. Through has- the combination of hard work, dedication and passion, LAB has been running for 7 years exposing a list of pivotal artists in the world of modern Techno to all-Australia. JAMES COOPER is discussed on djrankings.org. Expanding his- their horizons, 2011 saw the first launch of LAB in Berlin and at Burning Man Festival in the US.
Cooper’s roots lie in the sounds of Latin, Classical, Jazz and later Hip for-Hop. But it wasn’t until discovering turntables that he bounded into the rhythms of intelligent Techno and House. The all- absorption of early Techno influences such as Cari Lekebusch and Adam Beyer, accompanied by a high admiration for Ambient Electronica, namely Boards of Canada, Autechre, KLF and the like, contributed to Cooper’s fundamental understanding of quality electronic for-music. To him, DJing is not about ego, but an ever evolving adventure through the intricacies of sound and its marriage to people.
Recent years have seen Cooper performing internationally in Australia, Europe, China, North & Central America, Fiji and festivals such as Burning Man, Dimensions and Rainbow Serpent Festival. Currently can- based and running events in both Berlin & Melbourne, now-Mr. Cooper is finally turning focus to releasing his production.
