Markus Schulz's thoughts and beats

00:00 Nov/30/1999

DJ Times magazine and Pioneer DJ announced that Markus Schulz is America’s Best DJ of 2012. That’s a great honor for the immensely successful 37-year old German trance music DJ and producer. In The Official Global DJ Rankings he’s #17 overall and #3 of U.S DJs.

Recently, before headlining at the Marquee nightclub Markus Shulz talked to Doug Elfman about his music and success. Last time Markus attended the club in Las Vegas, he met two of his fans who fell in love in the club’s VIP section. So he ended up being the best man for the two in a symbolic ceremony in the parking lot of a closed wedding chapel.

Schulz is based in Miami, but holds Marquee in Las Vegas his home away from home. After a discussion with other DJs about which city is naughtier – Miami or Las Vegas – Markus answers Miami. About the latest achievement of winning the award he said to Elfman: "I do this for the love of the music, and the fans connect with me through the music - it's a special thing." Having been DJing for decades, he’s well respected by his colleagues and fans. He elaborates on him being firstly a DJ, then a producer: "I've always been one of those guys that tries to make sure the art of DJing is never lost," Schulz says. "I was first a DJ, then learned how to produce. I love to do 12-hour sets." This gives evidence of true passion found in the premier dance music DJ in the world. What’s interesting is the fact that Schulz has never had to compromise his sound in order to break out or achieve mainstream success. Mainstream has come to him, and not the other way around. When asked about his non-compromising approach, Schulz answers:,,I think that comes from the art of DJing," he says. "All the tracks I've ever made, I've made them to work in the DJ sets - not to work on the radio, or not to work on MTV. I've always done it for the love of the music. If I wasn't standing here right now, I'd be DJing in my bedroom, because I love the music."

His last album ’Scream’ was released in the summer of 2012. Schulz has countless remixes and songs during his successful career.More recent songs include"Loops & Tings" (with Ferry Corsten), "Caught" featuring Adina Butar, and "Love Rain Down On Me" with Seri. He’s well known for his Global DJ Broadcast, which is a monthly set played on 50 radio stations around the world, Spotify and his own site.
