Daft Punk hit #1 in the UK Top 40, not even top 10 in US
After Rudimental took the throne from Duke Dumont last Sunday, Daft Punk take the UK Top 40 #1 spot with 'Get Lucky'. Surprisingly enough the infectiously funky tune is the first UK number one hit for the French electro duo. Their next best charted single, 'One More Time', was voted #1 on Mixmag's '50 Greatest Dance Tracks of All Time', but never made it to the top back in year 2000. Now, the new single that features the signature groove of Nile Rodgers and soulful vocals of Pharrell Williams, sold over 155,000 copies in a week, claiming the best ranking with ease. Rodgers commented on the success of the tune: "The relationship between myself and Daft Punk was just so unbelievably right. So, the fact that it has gone to Number 1 is humbling. It is extraordinary." 3 weeks to go until the album release! Get lucky!
In addition to the UK Top 40, the robots have conquered the iTunes charts of Australia, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Finland, Portugal, Luxembourg and Denmark. They're close to taking the top spot in Netherlands, Canada, Spain and a few other countries, as they are in the top 10 of every country on iTunes, except Japan, Austria and the U.S of A. Weird, huh? In the epicenter of the hype, Daft Punk is preceeded by the likes on will.i.am, Justin Timberlake, Fall Out Boy and P!nk.
