Bye-bye Swedish House Mafia! ..wait, WHAT?

00:00 Nov/30/1999

The time has come for the haters to step forward and say: 'I told you so.' When the inital hype of the Swedish House Mafia hiatus was in full throttle, they announced the 'One Last Tour'. In addition to the massive world tour, there were added dates in cities where the 'last-ever' show was sold out, leaving a lot of people unhappy not being able to see their beloved trio one last time. A lot of people raised questions already then, wondering how can they be split up, when they're embarking on the biggest tour they've ever done. Along the way, merchandise and record sales climbed and climbed. Now, we get the news that Swedish-not-so-House-Mafia-anymore, Sebastian Ingrosso and Axwell are starting a new project called Departures.

The Ultra grand finale was amazing. They truely came, raved and loved on the same stage they did their North-American debute in 2010. The live stream showed deep emotions among the ravers: sad faces, happy expressions; there were tears of joy and tears of happiness.

I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't it seem that the Swedish House Mafia split was only a successful marketing campaign.. And ultimately, a way of saying good-bye to one group member? Departures is SHM minus Steve Angello, who is relaunching the “deeper, techier” label X, an offspring of his Size Records.

Ingrosso & Axwell have already booked a show in Ibiza in June. Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel‘s Facebook page says: “The rumors are true… Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso have confirmed their new Departures concept will be at Ushuaïa from 12th June every Wednesday. Watch out for the full announcement next week!”

Ingrosso and Axwell, both managed by ATM, have been working together on tracks recently, including 'We Come, We Rave, We Love' the collab that opened the One Last Tour sets. Residency at new Las Vegas venture LIGHT at the Mandalay Bay is also announced for both..

So what's your bet? Will Departures be another commercial success, or will they be leaching of SHM's glory until they need to do another split-up?
