I've just bought a VCI 100 "SE" on ebay. As far as I can tell it has the 1.3 software even though it was advertised as 1.2 (no green sticker, left sync button toggles when traktor not running right does not, also it has two overlays so I guess the one underneath was for 1.2 ). My question is, how can I tell if this was originally an SE version from DJTT or if it started life as a normal unit and was converted by the owner?

I've been looking into this and i noticed that my vci is just being a random bitch!

Mine stays in boot mode also, apparently. I tried every usb port i have and the vci is just random.

Like I said, I was just posting a solution to my problem. Mine also said the firmware was applied successfully but all the lights would remain off except for the red power on led meaning it was still in boot mode. It worked for me.
Lucile Sanita
01.04.2011
how does that fix the problem?

The problem is that after applying the 1.4 firmware the vci still acts like it's in 1.2.
Even thought the flash software says it applied the firmware succesfully.

No, I'm not keeping solutions to myself lol. I just wanted to make sure what was going on first in the PM. My upgrading problem was that the firmware would flash the image successfully, but the VCI-100 would stay in boot mode.

The solution to my problem on Windows 7 w/ usb-to-usb was to actually switch the the usb port that my VCI-1OO was plugged into. For some reason at the time of upgrading it did not like my first USB port for the VCI. I hope this helps anyone.

Nice work! Most people use the DJTT standard midi map, which you can find if you click mappings next to home at the top of this page. It's perfect for most things

Hello Everyone,

Since I can hardly share my sensation with anyone around me in real life I thought I'd share my experiences with you.

The only 'Windows person' I could find was my father who doesn't live nearby so I made a trip to combine a visit with trying to upgrade my VCI-100 after receiving the kit from DJTT.
I prepared myself by bringing a serial cable (2 times 'male' plug) but after setting up everything (opening up VCI-100 and having my laptop on the side with the instruction video) I discovered that the only port on the Windows computer was 'female' so I actually needed a different serial cable with one 'female' plug and a 'male'
Since it was late already I could not go down-town to search for a different cable and I was too excited to stop so..

I took off the plug and connected the wires (2red/3orange/5green) to the 'female upgrade kit plug' without using a plug at all.
If you examine the upgrade kit closely you will see that only 3 pins are being used, there's a fourth (nr. 8) connected but it was my guess that that one is only soldered to keep the plug steady.
It seems my guess was right because after making sure the wires were connected neatly I pushed the flash button and the upgrading was successfully within 30 sec. !!!
My dad's computer runs on Windows 7.
So thank you DJTT for making this possible and thank you everyone else for sharing your experiences.

DON"T TRY THIS AT HOME !
or..DO TRY THIS AT HOME if you are very sure what you are doing..

ps.
I'm pretty lost in my search for the perfect midi mapping, I use Traktor Pro for mixing Minimal (mainly) and I'm not into scratching or too many other tricks but I am into looping and using 3rd or 4th deck for own recorded samples and thus using cue-points, does anyone have a tip because there is just a little too much information here if you dive in late, like me..thank you in advance.

further to my previous message, this is the 'success' message I get every time (must have tried 10x now!) I flash from 1.2 to 1.4 yet the vci remains as 1.2, what am I missing / doing wrong?

I've read all relevant stuff I can find in the community , so have tried:

connecting serial and then usb in the correct order
lower the baud rate to 9600
complete reinstall of FDT and start again
suspending the VCI so no buttons pressed during boot mode
ensure PCB is properly seated
I must have tried this over 10x now - each and everytime I get 'Image written to device' - full details below.

I run out of options - can only now begini to wonder if my PCB is faulty or worse my VCI? HELP PLEASE!

Hi,

this is my first post and alas it is to ask for help with a problem.

I have a VCI 100 firmware 1.2 (confirm with the LHS sync button test).

I have performed the firmware upgrade via a serial to serial (straight through) cable on a Win XP PC running Renesas 4.05 basic and have uploaded VCi100-DaveX-1.4

The upload procedure all went well, with the software reporting that everything was written and completed successfully.

Yet when I again do the SYNC button test or both SCRATCH button test the unit performs as if it is still firmware 1.2 - I've read this thread and no one has specifically answered this (although someone had a similar issue).

All help and comments appreciated!

cheers

I am still using firmware 1.3 with my vci 100 arcade mod. I am using one of your custom mappings. I believe its 3.1. The last mapping before you replaced two of the buttons with slice and echo effect. Tried it and went back to the other version. I would like to know if I upgrade to firmware 1.4 will I still be able to use this mapping?

Thanks for help.

They upgraded your firmware to 1.4?!

That is, this is... i'm speechless, really.

11.03.2011
yes, they will do the FW update, they've picked up the unit yesterday...looking forward...
the LEDs didn't burn all at once,it's like one LED every 2/3months,last year 4 LEDs(sent to repair) and 4 LEDs the last 5 months...& my warranty exp date it's approaching...
My fear about the jogs is that it'll get too fast (.tsi is set on 1%sens) & I can't bring it down....
Leeanna Ayla
11.03.2011
I don't believe they'll flash it with teh DJTT firmware, but if they do that's awesome. You'll probably need to make adjustments to the 1.4 tsi to suit your style just like you did with the 1.2 firmware.
Tatum Ansaldo
11.03.2011
8 LEDs is unusual, but unfortunately they do sometimes burn out. Was it the same LEDs? I just replaced mine myself, to teach myself soldering

Will they actually put 1.4FW in for you? If so that's awesome.

The jogs are higher resolution so more accurate, you can still change the acceleration etc to suit your needs if you want to.

hello there!I just sent my unit VCI-100 to Vestax to change 4 LEDs,that went off, & I asked them to upgrade my firmware to DJTT 1.4, but I'm afraid how the jogwheels will work with the new FW,I checked the .tsi & I see that it will have 1%sens/19%acel; in my 1.2FW I use 3%sens/0%acel, will it get so diferent from that?here is a video of me scratching in FW 1.2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmvvXCE4Dro
so anyone who scratches that can give a review about the new jogs resolution?
what about the LEDs,it is the 2nd time I send the unit to vestax to change LEDs (8 leds total burned) is this normal?
thank you, looking forward.

So, for your djing pleasure, attached is a TSI which:
  • Turns back on pitch bend outer wheel in Vinyl mode
  • Turns off the pitch bend outer wheel when not in vinyl mode, so you can turn off vinyl mode in heavy bass situations and not have to worry about sync drift
  • Fixes the bug whereby the inner wheel of deck A was much lower sensitivity than the others when in pitch bend (not vinyl) mode.

I recommend you import the DJTechTools TSI first, then import my one to apply the fixes.
Let me know if you have any issues- no promises I can help with them, but I'll do my best.
Im trying to figure out what it was that you changed to correct these problems in the DJTT TSi. I have been using your tsi on top of the DJTT one because I want the pitch bend back in scratch mode, and the reason Im looking into the config again is that Id like to turn down the sensitivity of the outer wheel (when in scratch mode) as its very difficult to fine tune the phase as it stands. Can you give me a pointer as to where to look. I was trying to do a compare of the tsi files in notepad++ but your file doesnt seem to be in a standard xml format? But if you could just point me where to configure this through the traktor mapping editor Id really appreciate it!

Sorry man, I dont have the means to make a video which will be good enough to demonstrate it.

Im touching and moving it when I get the problem

Easiest way to replicate it is trying to use the beatmasher in FaderFX mode and play with the wet/dry using the jog, you can hear it bending as its mashing..

What do you mean? Do you mean the sync button (Key lock is the shift function)? Or are you talking about the way the original vestax faceplate labels the buttons?

Ofcourse it's not possible .

I quess i screwed up.
The key-lock button doesn't work with me.
Still got the sync problem and ramp-up problem.

I do got high res pitch faders (0.4) and i can boot the vci in test mode, i believe, by holding the right echo + play.
Only both key locks and deck c / b buttons 'r on, i assume this is test mode.

omg... i created a hybrid?!

I hope de chips + cable get back in stock soon .
